Maori: roa - great spotted kiwi; Apteryx haastii - flightless, nocturnal endemic bird with hair-like feathers and a long bill with sensitive nostrils at the tip. Now found only on the northern West Coast of Te Wai Pounamu, the South Island.

    Roa far prefers the still air and quiet beat of the earth to the above ground cacophony of stimuli. The eyes of his species, adapted to the dim light of the Tangled Wood, now serve him perfectly in the vast network of tunnels underneath Dragonhome. An excellent mapper and cartographer, while he doesn't have the strength or size to carve tunnels himself he is an essential part of the tunneling team, keeping both the horizontal and vertical direction of ongoing projects accurate.
