Derived from Greek αστηρ (aster) meaning "star" and ‘ροδον (rhodon) "rose". In Greek myth Asterodia was a nymph who inhabited a Caucasian mountain stream that bore gold (her name may even imply the sparkle of gold, "like a star-rose"). - Imbued with an inherent aura of daintiness and aloofness, Asterodia has earned the apt nickname "Princess" from the rest of her clan. Born in the clan's nests to a pair of wandering dragons whose home is in the Plague lands, the only clue to her Plague heritage is the fiercness with which she responds when she feels she has been slighted. Despite her small size and dainty appearance, she is more than capable of fending for herself when necessary, and what can appear to be standoffishness is actually more simply the result of shyness. Her curious, careful nature has led her to be well-liked by her clan even if she is not overly warm toward them. She serves as one of the clan's ambassadors. - "Do you really think it was wise to part with such a large sum of money?" Tisiphone hissed to Kyrakios as they crossed back into the Arcane realm, indicating with a nod the tiny ball of fur and feathers he held in his arms. "The clan's finances aren't at their most stable right now --" "As I'm well aware," Kyrakios replied serenely, preening the hatchling's feathers with his claws, a faint smile on his face at the soft thrumming purr she made. "Tisiphone, the nuance you fail to grasp is that one may always be cautious and see little success from it; learning to recognize a risk which may yield a great reward is a lesson you have yet to learn." Tisiphone huffed and rattled her feathers. "You've never been told what I was willing to pay to acquire you, I suppose," Kyrakios continued. "It's a somewhat unsavory matter to discuss, but it wasn't much less than this hatchling, although it was a time at which our stores were more flush. And I had no trouble paying the appropriate price then, either. It's no shame to pay handsomely for something of great value." He looked downward at a chirp from the hatchling, who had raised her head and her ruff of feathers, clearly on a state of high alert at her surroundings. "You see? She recognizes this place. Her parents may not be of this clan, but she was born here, and she knows she belongs." He set the hatchling down gently, allowing her to wander along by herself, her wings quivering with excitement as Kyrakios watched, silently, glancing at Tisiphone and then back to the hatchling before he spoke again. "Welcome home, little one." |
