The Mob's Face
The shady Pearlcatcher hails from the Fishspine Reef, but as soon as she got a load of the surface she left the Water realm behind. The world above was so much wider than the bounded inland sea, and while she was out of her element, so to speak, she adapted quickly. On land she got involved in less-than-honest business, and took to crime like a fish to water; and these dubious roads lead to Basalt's Hydra Scorpions that lurked inside the Diabase Demesne.
After a few years spent feigning loyalty to Pele, Almedha moved out with the rest of the Scorpions. Nowadays, her “official” job is acting as Vaida's accountant and assistant at the latter's apparel shop, on the outskirts of a territory neighboring the Demesne, which in truth is the front for the Hydra Scorpions' den. Her true line of work is serving as the face of the mob, donning a cordial, sociable mask in public and when she deals with other criminals on Basalt and Vaida's behalf. In private, around those who know her, she's far more subdued and dry.
When not negotiating deals she comes up with scams and schemes of her own, usually along the lines of subtly undermining the Scorpions' rivals. Her other duties include maintaining the Scorpions' PR, by passing on some of their gains to the general public, organizing money laundering and counterfeiting, and pass on reports of public opinions and arrests to Basalt and Vaida so underlings who become liabilities can be dealt with. In short, Almedha is the chief Scorpion bureaucrat, an invaluable cornerstone of the syndicate's operations.
