Abandoned as an egg and raised by nothing but the emptiness of the Shattered Plain, Grax could easily have become an isolated and wary dragon, but he did not. Instead, his loneliness as a youngster turned into a desire for companionship and a never-satisfied thirst for knowledge about the world around him. He wanted nothing more than to be a father, to give others the family he had never had, and to share with them the wonders of the natural world. He got this by accident when he trespassed in the territory of the brutal and cold Ajra, whom defeated him in battle in order to gain his territory, yet found her heart softened by his caring demeanor. She, too, had wanted a family, and found him more than adequate as a mate.
The two created a home together, taking over a cliff village that once belonged to another tribe, and were happy for a time, until they learned of the Earthshaker. Both were enamored with their patron deity, and both swore to devote their lives to the god. This created dissent between the two, as Ajra became more and more fanatical with her worship, building followers around herself. Eventually, those followers began to follow her more than the actual Earthshaker.
Grax still loved her, but feared for his family. As the Rockbreaker cult gained power, he worked from within, building a subfaction of members that lacked the zealotry required to worship Ajra. And, as the cult crumbled and was almost overcome by the forces of the rival cult leader Elyakim, Grax lent support from the shadows, joining the fight against Elyakim's monsters.
Now that things have settled down in the village, he has been most accepted by the returning Cerillos tribe. Though they didn't exactly welcome him, they see him as a more moderate force than Ajra and allow him to live in their village. He has taken on a neutral role, mainly helping in the physical upkeep of the village.
