The Song and the Sea

The waves washed softly back and forth, breaking against the reef that breached the water. Wreckage surrounded the rocks. Shattered and broken ships were sunk beneath the surface creating even more obstacles that could bring down more ships. Sora perched atop the wreckage, sitting on the cross beam of a mast the poked up out of the water. She stared serenely out at the sea, softly singing to herself. She was getting rather hungry and hoped that some ships would come by soon. Her reef was right next to the trade routes that ran between The Southern Icefields and The Shifting Expanse. The ships were bound to be full of the food she needed.

Just as she was thinking this a ship crested the horizon and progressed in her direction. As it got nearer, she started singing more loudly, and the tune changed. A haunting melody carried over the water towards the ship. She watched as the dragons scurrying around the deck turned in her direction, listening to her song. Soon they were heading right towards her and she waited in anticipation. Once the ship was close enough, she stopped singing abruptly and chuckled to herself. Sora could feel her bones moving, and her skin crawling as she grew and shifted. Her beautiful features melted away revealing the monster beneath. Her wings were now leathery and looked more like fins, but they carried her towards the deck and the crew on it.

Swooping down she snatched up the nearest member of the crew, easily carrying him in her natural form. The dragons were screaming but it was too late. Their ship was torn apart on the reef and they perished in the crashing swells. She dropped her prey on the rocks below, a quick if a bit brutal way to die. The others floated, still, around her home. Landing, a sharp and wicked grin spread across her face as she began to feast on the buffet around her.
