Jem takes in the lost, the wandering, the struggling to survive. Sweet and kind, they grew up in the Sea of a Thousand Currents with Jack and Posei, who are, for all intents and purposes, their sisters. They love anything beautiful, and so they love other dragons - they consider each and every one of them beautiful. They're always there to help anyone who needs it. Their uniquely gentle nature means that dragons who are feeling hurt or lost - like Enki - are drawn to them. Unfortunately, it also makes them naive and sensitive, and their sisters sometimes have to protect them from those who would take advantage of them.

Amongst those they take in, they are sometimes known as Lord Jem or Lady Jem - an affectionate reference to their love of the finer and softer things. Many of these dragons were temporary residents of the clan, so Jem does not have as wide a social circle as one might think. Besides their sisters and Enki, they are reasonably close with Simon, with whom they once had something of a fling. This resulted in Ele, whom, of course, Jem dotes on - but more because he's another dragon than because he's their son.
