MAD WORLD BEATS OUTSIDE OUR HEARTS UNDERNEATH THE STARS x.x.synopsis | Fitting of the clan's eldest dragon, Selucia is wise and worldly with a tranquil disposition. He does not fret easily, or at all to anyone's knowledge, which makes others looks to him first in a crisis. As a sage, he often wears the role of the mediator, especially between the Queen and her council. In fact, he is the only sage to be close to Queen Vitori, and is the one whom she looks to most often for guidance.
But unbeknownst to most he was rather troublesome in his youth, as dangerously curious as the Arcanist himself, and one to give in to dark and reckless desires. He crossed the astral plane and snatched a divine object from its proper place: a tome containing the knowledge of the Arcanist. The consequence of his behaviors have changed him greatly, and he is now cautious and obedient--especially to the Icewarden's will (as he thinks the Arcanist has forsaken him). Much of his spare time is spent at the Frozen Gods' altar, meditating and seeking direction in hopes that he can still gain the eternal life of the exalted.
After stealing the Tome, Selucia lost all of his Arcane Magic, but gained a deep understanding of the world around him. Where he once looked up at the stars in wonderment, Selucia now reads meaning in their alignment with startling acuity.
At a hatchling's birth, he can look to the stars and draw their fortunes from them--often correctly guessing a hatchling's future personality and aspects of their fate. Selu does not proclaim to be a oracle, like Saphiren, but rather explains that it is the stars who are the oracles--he is merely reading the prophecies they proclaim.

UNDERNEATH THE STARS
x.x.cour i| Selucia was not always so contented in his life. Where there is a natural curiosity that beats with the heart of every young arcane dragon, Selucia's boyhood heart raced with an obsessive yearning for the unknown.
He was born in a high bluff of the focal point, the observatory's statuesque figure a mere glance away. Only the dragons with years of dedication and study were blessed enough to be exalted and promoted in to the observatory's walls where the Arcanist's infinite knowledge was said to be strewn about on books and scrolls. Selucia dreamed of being able to hold the Arcanist's works in his hands and read from the notes of the youngest God. He began to work toward this honor at a very young age, consuming books and spending hours observing the stars and their movements. Long nights were dedicated to deciphering the heavens and days were bartered away for the chance to read scribbled ponderings of the ones who came before him.
The history of the world was his favorite bit of knowledge. Though learning something new was the greatest of all scholarly pursuits, Selucia felt that history held infinite knowledge if one can only decipher new meaning from it. There were lessons to be learned from the past, scrolls upon scrolls of written history that held untrodden philosophy if read between their lines. But there were only so many books that Selucia could get his hands upon. In time, he would convince himself that he had read every book on the planet and grow restless.
There were, however, some books he had not read because they were untouched by mortal claws. Those in the Arcanist's possession high in the Observatory where the curious God called home. It was not yet Selucia's time to be exalted, but he could not sit idle and wait. No, he had to know more, to know what his God knew. So, entrapped by his own curiosity, he snuck his way up to the observatory and, using his knowledge and magic, he delved gingerly into the astral plane where his God and the exalted resided.
The observatory was greater than he could have ever imagined. Telescopes practically replaced windows and pages and pages of written knowledge filled every shelf. The tower itself was inscribed upon the walls and the ceilings with ancient runic letters and symbols even Selucia did not recognize.
He stared for but a moment in wonder before a tome, laying partly upon a small table blanketed in noted, caught the Pearlcatcher's eye. It's pages were bound in mauve leather and golden clasps held it shut. The Arcanist's curious child reached out with one extended claw and delicately opened the tome to read from its very first page.

Suddenly, the room became aglow and the Pearlcatcher glanced up. The runic markings on the wall were glowing fervently, so bright he was forced to squint. The room shook and from thin air appeared small dragon-like creatures that glowed in a cosmic light. Angry eyes peered down at him and as the room began to shake, these creatures swarmed him, shrieking in anger and biting at him. "The unexalted do not belong here!" came a disembodied voice. Snatching the tome and hugging it tight, Selucia leapt in to flight and hurried back the way he came.
This place was rejecting him, the plane of existence where the Gods' lived flashed away and the Observatory became empty--the walls were no longer imbued with markings and the books vanished away. It was an empty tower now from which Selucia was fleeing, a simply building in the mortal world. But he could still feel the pain of the small arcanic creatures biting at him until he was well beyond the Starfall Isles and crossing in the Icewarden's domain.
He collapsed upon the snow, exhausted, as if all the magical energy had been drained from him. And indeed, it had. Holding out the tome before him, he knew that he had sacrificed all of his magic--all of his hard work--for this one piece of writing of the Arcanist's creation. He wept as he read from it, the knowledge within as overwhelming as the sacrifice he paid to receive it.
x.x.cour ii | Selucia did not return to the Starfall Isles. His dream of being exalted was now an uncertainty, and there was no mortal knowledge waiting for him there. Would the Arcanist even accept him after he sinned against the God so greatly? The aging Pearlcatcher hunkered down in the Icefields until a cerulean imperial discovered him shivering in a tiny nook in the crags, frigid fingers squeezed tightly around the tome.
"Ah, I had a dream you would be here." She said gently. "Come now, wise one, you are needed." And she beckoned him to follow her. He could not afford to simply ignore her and stay out in the freezing weather. Death was looming over him, waiting to take his frozen body at a moment's notice. So he followed her.
She belonged to a clan called the Frozen Requiem. How fitting. Selucia already decided he detested the cold, but the clan had built a fortress in to the mountainside which offered an escape. When he was finally warm and no longer fearing that death was about to take him as he had in the cold, he questioned the Imperial's motives. Her name was Saphiren, she told him, and she was an Oracle from the Sea. The clan had recently come under new forced leadership and its denizens were at one another's throats. The colony was nearing a civil war of sorts when Saphiren had dreamed of a rose-colored male dying in the cold who possessed something the clan needed.
Wisdom. Though he had no magic any longer, Selucia had gained much from the knowledge contained in the tome. A calmness settled over him. He no longer hungered for enlightenment, but basked in a deep understanding of the world around him. He was brought before the Sages and with startling conviction Saphiren spoke to the other elders about her dream and named him their newest Sage. A perplexed group of elders raised brows and cocked their heads, but said nothing. Saphiren's visions, they all knew, were nothing to sneeze at. If she said the clan needed him, then it needed him.
Since the time of his arrival, Selucia has been a peacekeeper between the Sages and the Queen. They're battle over authority is not much different than that which forged the making of dragonkind. With some contentment, Selucia could see that those before him were very much representatives of dragonkind as a whole, the differing sects each fighting for what they believe in. After what he had consumed from the Tome, he felt the Arcanist's burden of this division among the dragons and carefully seeks to to help unite them.
