Val is proud of his homeclan, Clan Sharphorn. He was brought up with stories and always loved adventure. Sure, some of the stories might have been exaggerated or fictional but Val always suspected that there was a hint of truth in them. Especially the ones about pirates. They have to be true. His father and great-uncle would tell the best stories of pirates associated with the clan. And pirates mean adventure, two of Val’s favourite interests! Despite his noble heritage he finds the pirate life thrilling and intoxicating, the thought to be free. Carefree. Luckily for Val he has a tutor, a former captain by the name of Rairye. Captain Rai has taken it upon himself to teach Val everything about the life of a pirate. The swashbuckling, the sword and fighting, how a ship and crew works and honour. Honour is important, even to a pirate wannabe.

He has of course also trained under the great Centurion Zikkt and Praetor Bard taught him the way of the sword. Maybe one day he will leave Civitas Aurorae and join a real pirate crew. But at the moment he enjoys the small adventures and trips while working as a Praetorian Guard. For the paycheck obviously.
Being a ward of Rai means that he grew close to Ilmatar, he’ll constantly tease her for her affection towards Edgar. In the guard he grew close to Octavia, they often work together on the night shift. And when they are not working they spar together, cook spicy food or make new versions of jerky.

But the bestest friend is no doubt Daedalus. They often take time off to travel and have adventures! Even if it’s just for a weekend.
