Biography

Messenger

Carn began life as a Mirror dragon. She was born in the Shifting Expanse, and grew as most Mirror cubs do. After reaching the age of adulthood, she left - in part because of the rumors that the Stormcatcher was going to hire new workers. Despite her element, she never really had the desire to build things - or be exalted.

The next years of her life were spent wandering the world, exploring and just being your stereotypical Mirror. She ran with the Abiding Boneyard packs for a while. After that, her wandering paws took her into the Rout. Carn settled down as much as a Mirror dragon can, having several offspring, all of whom she was fond of in a vague, distant way.

This pleasant life was brought crashing down around her ears by a rouge. A clanless Ridgeback, driven out of his former lands. A large and well-trained fighter. Nothing the pack couldn't handle - but she had wandered off to hunt alone. The Velian Clan arrived just in time to see her take a fatal blow.

While the Ridgeback was brought down, Hrozyn did what he needed to in order to save her life. She was loosing blood too quickly, so he used one of the rare items the scavengers occasionally come across. A breed-change scroll. She became a Fae, much to her shock and horror. She reacted... violently, lashing out at any who came near - though it was obvious she had no idea how to use her new, oddly proportioned body. If she had, then Hrozyn would have been gravely injured. In exasperation, he finally called in SunsShade to help her learn control.

SunsShade was patient and kind as she got used to her new body, and its small size. He played pranks, helped her learn to fly on her Fae-wings, and get used to the distinctly un-Mirror urges of her new body - like the significantly enlarged magical core and the odd stiffness in her face. He even got her a position as messenger so she could still roam Sornieth. It surprised none of the clan when they announced their intent to bond. Her bonding gift to him was a durable necklace of darksteel, while he gave her an intricate and magically charmed bracelet.

She still retains the ability to move her face and can alter her voice patterns, leading to quite a bit of shock from both other Fae and other dragons. She also spends a great deal of time walking on the ground, forcing members of the clan to be careful about where they put their feet, and eats a diet of meat and insects.

Though her body has changed, not much else has. Carn still has a wildfire temper, easily started and explosive, as well as her foul mouth. The stubbornness is nothing new either. Her feelings about her change in status are... ambiguous. While she is indeed happy with her mate, the small size of her form leaves something to be desired.

These mixed feelings are in part why she avoids Hrozyn and the medical caves like they hold plague. Feelings are still something to be avoided, so she tries not to think about it much. Her headfins are constantly raising and lowering themselves in response to this internal conflict.

Cyanth is another dragon she dislikes. The mask of the Shadow has often lead to much complaining about the "emotionless golem" she's expected to follow. Added to that the fact that she hates to be manipulated and is intelligent enough to see when she is - yet due to her reliance on the clan unable to do anything about it - Carn isn't at all welcoming to the Guardian.

She speaks in a heavy accent of indeterminable origin, as do most Mirrors. Packs congregate from all over the globe, often leading to some interesting words and phrases reaching the hatchlings as well as various accents.

Her first familiar, a Banded Owlcat, left when she assumed the shape of a Fae and rejoined the Rout. Her second - a Cockatrice - is still a fledgling, and horribly clumsy.
