Biography

In her youth Wiress was soft-spoken and shy, and she struggled to find her place in the clan. She possessed none of the aggressive tenacity of her mother—a good thing, as far as the rest of the clan was concerned—and felt too utterly inexperienced and unqualified to assist her father in his advisory roll, which left her at a loss for what to do with herself. None of her sisters seemed to have that problem—Johanna left to seek enlightenment with the Lightweaver as soon as she was able, responsible Enobaria settled down in the Starfall Isles, and even wild Cecelia found a place to call home. Sometimes Wiress wondered if she shouldn't have just up and left with them too, but she couldn't really see how a change of location would have actually affected anything.

When she was not agonizing over past decisions and cataloging her regrets, Wiress attempted to help out in the clan wherever she could. Dreadful at hunting and no more a warrior than the average hatchling, she could really only be relied upon to watch over the nesting grounds and care for the little ones. In her spare time she began crafting; her skill was nothing out of the ordinary, but over time she steadily improved. At the time, none of the dragons of the clan had the technical expertise to mentor her properly in this area—though Lichtenberg's arrival would change that soon enough—but she would fill this gap by collaborating with Lemniscate when trying new things and exploring opportunities for invention. Then, perhaps inevitably, she began to dabble in alchemy, and it was there that she discovered her calling. Though Lemniscate was initially a bit dismayed by her choice to pursue this craft—his opinion of alchemy in general being rather bleak—the benefits to Wiress this decision engendered were too obvious for him to hold it against her for long.

Proficient—and then some—right from the start, Wiress immediately cornered the alchemical market of the clan, and as her skill and competence grew, so did her confidence and self-assurance. She made a den for herself in the icy slopes of the clan grounds, and there she plies her trade for any who need it. Trinkets, potions, materials, and even sometimes living creatures—if a dragon wants it, they can usually get it from the Transfiguration Den. Inside the den Wiress is queen; she knows her trade, and she won't brook shenanigans from anyone. Outside the den she's a bit more sedate, but there's still a spark of fire there that wasn't there before. Though she spends most of her time in the den, usually alongside Ishmael, her sometimes-assistant, she also enjoys visiting the hatching grounds, as she misses being around the clan's hatchlings.
