BRIEF HISTORY
Basalt was born and raised under the watchful eyes of Vadoma and the LOCRIN. His father, a rather estranged imperial had had a brief affair with one of the lair's metal smiths, and left shortly after seeing his son. His mother however doted over the boy, happy to see that one of her hatchlings had survived. She loved him so. Basalt was raised by the LOCRIN, as all younglings are, and for a while was in training to join the Forthen Guard. However, Vadoma saw brilliance in the young imperial, and took him directly under her wing. For a while, the boy was excited to be in direct care of the clan's Matriarch, but soon he found the work to be far too tedious for his liking. He figured he'd ride it out though, and make the clan proud. He did well for quite some time, and even found love for a while.

Tigerlilly was a brave, wild imperial, but as all wild things were, she disappeared to the wind to move on and live freely. They had three children as well; all who followed their mother's wings, leaving poor Basalt grounded by his work and duties to the clan and the LOCRIN. Not too long after that though, the imperial grew increasingly somber over his situation, and for quite some time debated wether or not he should move on to the higher ranks and work directly under the Icewarden. However, as the end of the year rolled around, Basalt decided he would move on like his father and family. There was, after all, far much more to see in the world of Sornieth. He approached Vadoma directly about taking leave, moving out of the clan, and perhaps even looking to starting his own adventure. Much to the disdain of his mother of course. However, Vadoma took heed of the young imperial's plea for freedom, and allowed for his departure. So with that, he took to the skies in search of his next calling.
He found that life as a prince had coddled him. Although he knew his way with a sword and shield, he wouldn't have expected the life on the road would be so rough. By the time his clothes were torn and his wings weary, a storm had stolen his warmth and he needed a place to rest. Basalt crawled into a small clan sheltered under a canopy of trees that dripped from the passing storm. He was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations he came across, with chambers fit for a prince.
Basalt didn't mean to stay long. Just until the storm passed. But he never left. He made excuses, gave himself deadlines. He'd leave by the next night, the next full moon. He just never found a good time. He became comfortable, and even befriended some of the dragons who lived in this space.
He was approached by the Leader of the Guard, Vesper. They didn't really need his help, but they offered him the honor anyway. He wasn't interested in any positions of power, at least not like that. He spent his days watching the clan build itself, growing his own hoard of fascinating magical objects, and reading within the massive library they had built. Drama came and went, as did dragons. He never felt tired of the place.
That is, until he came.
