Hibiscus

The Accidental Knight

"Whoops! That was close! Oh look, a carnation!"

Hibiscus was born to be a florist. Every sign pointed to it. He had loved and memorized all the different kinds of flowers since he was a hatchling. Most of his days were spent in the flowery fields with his mother. Cheerful, and carefree, Hibiscus is very popular in the clan. Then again, it could've been because he was so utterly clumsy.

As the years passed, his calling became clearer and unquestionable. Everybody knew he was destined to be a florist... until that fateful, rainy day...

Hibiscus had been caught out in the storm. He had been busy tending to the outer gardens of the lair and completely didn't notice the dark clouds filling the sky. Running along the muddy pathway, Hibiscus had crossed paths with a speeding caravan, distracting him and blurring his vision.

One minute, he was running, and then, the next he was falling until he finally blacked out.

When he woke up, he saw an old snapper in fancy clothes worrying over him. As he opened his eyes, the snapper grasped his hands and a string of "thank you"s flooded Hibiscus' fuzzy brain.

From what he could make out of the things the old snapper said, he had apparently saved his caravan from being attacked by bandits. Looking around, Hibiscus noted a small, unconscious pile of dragons a few feet from him.

Still puzzled, Hibiscus suggested that they go to the clan leaders and report what happened.

In front of the clan leaders, the old snapper explained that he had been an ambassador from another clan and that he owed his life to Hibiscus, surprising everyone.

On the spot, Hibiscus was knighted and was given a place in the royal guard.

Everything had gone too fast for the young nocturne and he did not realize what was happening until it was all over.

Remaining optimistic, Hibiscus reassured himself that nothing had really changed. He would still make it a point to take care of the clan's gardens and tend to the flowers and spend time with his mother. And training sessions weren't that bad either.

For some reason, he was always able to dodge and defeat his sparring partners and not because he was a skilled fighter, it was actually the opposite. He was lousy at anything physical. He would always fall over or his weapon would slip out of his grasp causing a chain of events that led to his victory.

Same goes for when he's on the battlefield!

Despite his clumsiness, none of the dragons find him a nuisance and actually admire him. According to them, aside from being so "skilled" in a fight, Hibiscus never let his achievements get to his head. To this day, he remains the kind, optimistic, and gentle dragon that he is.
