Born to parents who hailed from the plague flight, Carnelian's family moved were constantly on the move from the time he was born. Some of his earliest memories consisted of saying goodbye to many of his brothers and sisters who were chosen to become exalted to the deity of the area they were in at the time. During one of their stops in the Sunbeam Ruins, not long after reaching adulthood, Carnelian was chosen to leave his family behind and go serve the Lightweaver. Carnelian was not ready to put his life of travelling behind him, so he did the unthinkable: he refused.

Carnelian's parents were outraged, as were the denizens of the Light flight. They said the Coatl had no choice and demanded him to accept his fate. The young adult dragon didn’t understand why his life must be chosen for him by a deity he didn’t follow. On the day of his exalting he did all he could to prevent them from taking him away, even going so far as to attack those around him. He fought claw and fang against the other dragons, but his strength was not enough to thwart their actions.

His struggling grew fiercer once the exalting ritual began, but everything ceased when a blinding light filled the area. It exploded in the midst of the scuffle causing all around to jump away and shield their eyes. Poor Carnelian was held down during the fight and didn’t have enough time to shield his eyes. The light shone painfully bright, piercing his eyes. He screamed, the sound shattering the air. The Coatl curled up in agony for several minutes, and when he finally straightened the others saw the horrifying sight: his eyes, bone white with bloody tears streaming down them, staining his white fur. The light had blinded him.

The dragons took Carnelian to the nearest healer to tend to his wounds. Though they couldn’t restore his eyesight they mended the rest of his injuries. Once his health was somewhat better he was cast out. Blind, alone, and lost, Carnelian wandered the land as he did years ago, a nomad without a home. For years he lived like this with only the kindness of strangers helping him survive. As he wandered he became used to his new handicap and his hearing became heightened, allowing him to navigate this dark world. During a trip through the Viridian Labyrinth Carnelian came across a younger dragon, a strong hearted Guardian named Dubloon. The two became close friends and soon they began travelling Sornieth, as close as anyone could ever be.
