"an evergreen shrub with berries"

mate- Thyme
nestmates- none w/in the clan
close friends- Thyme, Juniper (Fae)
bonded familiars- Fuiran

Juniper and his mate, Thyme, moved here from Nature clan Oakheart, located a few days trek from Aceraceae’s territory. they immigrated here as an act of goodwill from Oakheart, knowing full well that Aceraceae’s defenses were not quite up to snuff compared to other clans (Minerva certainly appreciated the new recruits to strengthen her defense squad’s meager numbers). they used to feel uncomfortable in Aceraceae, still somewhat loyal to their previous clan, but have since settled into their roles in their new home. this has done nothing to diminish their fondness for Oakheart, however, and they are happy to recall stories of their old clan and clanmates for anyone curious.

Juniper has spent most of his time forging weapons since entering the clan. he sometimes joins his mate in her training sessions, no less a fierce and determined warrior than she, but is currently a bit overwhelmed by the sorry state of the clan’s weaponry, and has taken it upon himself to fully stock and repair the weapons as quickly as possible. this is no easy task, and Juniper often finds himself working well into the night, his concentration broken only by his mate gently coaxing him off to rest his weary mind and body. Minerva has assured him that he doesn’t need to work himself ragged, since there’s no dire need for weapons at the moment, but Juniper will have none of it, certain that the clan will be in danger as soon as he slacks off.

Juniper is a rather reserved soul, much like his mate, but he does enjoy observing clan goings-on. the scant few times he’s not working or sleeping, he can be found resting near the edges of various groups of dragons, listening quietly to their swapping stories and conversations. Juniper isn’t shy, comfortable carrying a conversation if confronted, but will rarely initiate contact. clanmates are surprised to find that despite the Skydancer’s modest looks, he’s rather gruff in speaking. whether he’s just not tactful or he doesn’t care to be tactful, no one’s sure, but Juniper’s somewhat brash speech has thrown more than a few clanmates for a loop.

despite Juniper’s quiet demeanor, he eventually attracted the attention of one clanmember in particular– a fellow Juniper. this Juniper– a Fae– was overly amused to find another dragon with the same name as her, and delighted in clanmates’ confusion when they’d call for a “Juniper” and find either the Fae or the Skydancer they weren’t looking for. the Skydancer didn’t really understand why the Fae found this so amusing, as he considered it more of a mild nuisance, but the Fae was unrelenting her stance– CLEARLY the situation was HILARIOUS

the Skydancer was at first put off by the Fae’s bubbly presence, annoyed by her antics, but eventually grew fond of her visits to the weaponry. her bright demeanor distracted his anxious mind and eased his stress while working (and her offerings of fresh insects and shrubs certainly didn’t hurt her case~)

the Fae then shocked Juniper one late night in his forging shed, cheerfully announcing she’d be leaving for the Gladekeeper. he didn’t fully believe her at first, but once goodbyes were exchanged and she officially left, he slipped into an almost catatonic state. he never realized how much he depended on the Fae until she was gone, and his rapid lapse into depression surprised him the most of anyone. Thyme panicked at this reaction, neglecting her duties in clan defense and sticking close to Juniper’s side during his mourning. Juniper admits now that he likely would not have recovered if not for his mate’s patience and dedication.

the departed Fae sent her first letter back to the Skydancer a few weeks after she left, apologizing for her lack of contact. apparently, Gladekeeper has a tight educational regimen for the newly exalted, and Juniper barely had the time or energy to get a letter out sooner. she promised to keep up regular contact from that point on, and she has yet to miss writing a letter a day, and visits as frequently as possible. this was truly when the Skydancer began to heal, with Thyme’s help, and eventually settled back into his normal, work-focused self. if anyone notices his few wistful glances to the Fae’s favored perch on his workbench, or his pauses whenever someone calls his name, no one mentions it.
