Leeta grew up in the Scarred Wasteland. From an early age, everyone in the clan could see that her wings were not forming quite right. Slightly see-through and heavy, it quickly became apparent that she likely would not be able to fly with them. The lack of proper balance the wings caused also made her slower to move than others, though she tried her best to keep up.
Her clan was never explicit about their opinion of Leeta, but that kind of coldness can hurt just as much as claws. Where other dragons her age were running around and learning to hunt, Leeta started writing stories, looking out towards the Viridian Labyrinth and imagining what life there would be like. When she later met her mate Hope, the decision to leave her clan and start a new life with Hope in the Labyrinth was an easy one to make. After stumbling upon the Starflower Sanctuary, Leeta and Hope decided to settle down there, for now, and were welcomed with open arms. Leeta was overjoyed to find a community of dragons willing to listen to all her story ideas. Actually listen, not just hear. The healers were happy to help, too, creating a wing enhancement to relieve some of the weight of the wings. Though she still needs to use her cane to stay balanced, Leeta is in less pain now, happy in a community where she can develop her full potential. Hope and Leeta can't have eggs together, and both have refused the option of using donors. They each have family with a history of illness, and don't quite yet feel comfortable with the possibility of passing that on while living in the shadow of what happened to Meristema. Still, they feel a strong desire to start a family together. They have decided to speak with resident scientist Glitter about creating a bogsneak egg, and have slowly been going out to gather the resources for it. Although Leeta worries about being a good parent to this potential child, she also cannot wait to meet them! |
