Percy was a strange hatchling, his parents discovered after the first cracks on his egg changed from the normal golden-colored glow to the color of the waves reflecting on the cliff-face. At first they feared the dreaded egg-rot had returned in a new more destructive form. Days past, and the egg carried an unmistakable scent that reminded Zien of the ocean. Cas noticed when the egg was left alone, it rocked ever-so-slightly, gently swaying back-and-forth. At first they questioned whether a Water egg had been snuck into their nest. They didn't know what to think after that, so they tried to ignore the worries. When the egg hatched, a fluffy awkward hatchling popped out. The parents were relieved to find he had the appropriate yellow pigment to his eyes. Things seemed normal. It was the first anniversary of his hatch-day when it happened. Percy was playing near the shore with some friendly Marens. To their shock and horror, the little dragon dove under the waves. They frantically searched alongside Zien for hours, sad to see such a youngling go. Zien was frantic, skimming low over the pounding waves, searching for her little boy. Hoping to find him, to find anything at all. As time passed a cold feeling settled in her stomach. She realized she was no longer searching for her son, but rather his dashed and battered body. She landed on the shore, unsure of what she'd tell Cas. Fat tears rolled from her eyes and splashed into the seafoam collecting at her feet. She felt something warm and wet nuzzling her, and she turned, expecting to find a maren holding her son's lifeless body. Instead, she found her son, dripping, but perfectly fine. He was even smiling. With a screech, Zien wrapped him in her wings, and held him close. Percy resigned himself to her embrace, but soon wiggled out. With his golden eyes shining, he spoke his first words, "In the waves, I could breathe."
