Ratter was home to each of the five provinces. a land gifted with magic, a home to most ability-bound dragons. Gothic style buildings infest the nation, through the mountains and plains all the way to the coastline. under the surface, a golden plague is growing, a Demiurge is stirring, and the amber-stained city is the root of it all.

The Gilded Province is one filled with a rich, long-standing history. A skyline blotted out by its lustrous, spiralling towers, and streets surrounded by gilded homes. While wandering the labyrinth of this vast city, one may, at times, feel watched. Rest assured, it is merely the plethora of gargoyles protectively perched atop the roofing of cathedrals and infrastructure archways. These beasts have inspired a number of local legends, most notably that of how they come alive with joy and dance during the festivities of the Night of the scrounge.

Held once a year, this festival is a much anticipated break to the monotony of daily life. The Gilded province's already impressive architecture becomes awash in banners and caged lanterns. Even from a distance, the brilliant glow of this celebration can be seen by travellers at night; a low glow of bronze, like the dying embers of a warm fire. If one such traveller were to walk in, they would find themselves surrounded by a display of radiance like none other.

Shimmering sun-stars twirled in an enchanting rhythm, the speed of the intricate dance turning the golden cloth into a blaze. As the dancers weave, the illusion will unfurl like a blossoming flower into a grande visage of the sun. It is mesmerising to watch, drawing crowds in like a moth to a flame. It is, however, even more mesmerising to join in. While the hired dancers all don the same abstract, gold masks of the sun, participants need not worry about their own masks clashing. Following the professional performance, the festival hosts another dance in which all are welcome to partake. Joining the anonymous crowd spinning banners of enchanting cloth, all become united into a visage of brilliance.

After having danced the night away, those enjoying the festivities may find a delicious array of food on offer. Vendors serve mouth-watering baklava, melt-in-your-mouth honey cakes, and drinks the colour and taste of honeyed syrup. If one happened to misplace their mask, there are even stallholders with an array of new masquerade-esque wares on offer. Suns, coins, even the gargoyles which are said to dance alongside the crowds, there are masks of choice for all.

The longest-running tradition during the Night of the Hounds is, of course, its wealth of gambling activities. Participants may celebrate with the spirits of chance and luck, tempting the fates in games of cards, coin toss, or even hog races. Lark’s biggest annual festival is sure to leave the heart full, and with a bit of luck, the pocket even fuller.
