Wandering along the newly-worn streets, you pass the most gloriously diverse characters. A Tundra merchant growls at another under an eyepatch, complaining about copied goods through a thick and almost otherworldly accent. A Spiral spins herself almost in knots wrangling her children, who rush after sweets, toys, and other passing dragons, before a soft-spoken Imperial swoops in to save her, much to the chagrin of her arriving mate. One block closer to the center two dragons squabble in Coatl- though you can't quite understand the jarring chirps and crackly shouts, the disappointed way one hits the other with a scroll and tramps away is meaning enough.
The levels of the city evolve as the road begins to incline and then becomes stairs hewn into the same pink crystal as the surrounding walls. The homes become stores, the restaurants boutiques and salons, and the lifestyle begins to evolve- the wealthier neighborhoods are showing their colors. As you pass a hutong-style complex, the air seems to thunder with the shake of an arriving airship. You look up, and a glance you get from passersby tells you that these aren’t abnormal, and that the best response is to keep your head down.
Seemingly all of a sudden, one district ends and is replaced by another- the Inner Circle, the district you’ve come for. It’s welcoming, sort of, with the muted colors and cobblestone. There’s an air of something wrong, especially towards the eastern side, but it isn’t enough to substantially affect the surrounding atmosphere. You walk up to the building in the very center and creep in, looking for someone to tell you where to go.
“Looking for SandSea?” The Skydancer approaches silently, and you struggle a bit to regain your composure.
“She’s up these stairs. And welcome to the Stilted Spires.”
