Regarding generations: for me there is no such thing as "half gen 2 half gen 5". It's simple, gen 1 parent + gen 4 parent = gen 5 baby.
My favorite thing to do here is to design breeding pairs. I linked my hatchery on the bottom of this page, reasonably priced offspring planned how I imagined them to be.
