There was no light... Not that it was needed, for the Tangled Woods and it’s many paths were illuminated by the glowing fungi of the grove. Despite the darkness surrounding the area, one could easily mind their footing as long they kept their eyes on the dim lights. If one took their time, it would be easy to notice the fungi’s illuminessence seemed to glow stronger in places one could swear had purpose; it was as if the woods—aware of travelers and their hardships—were trying to point into the right path. To provide guiding lights in a place where darkness reigned was quite the ironic feat. Of course, to those traveling by themselves, such a thing was appreciated. Kirin didn’t mind it, not at all. If anything, it made everything so much easier. The young dragon knew traveling across the Tangled Woods by himself could easily become a treacherous journey, especially for a gentle tundra dragon like himself. With the beastclans constant threat and the likely possibility of encountering other dragons not as eager to make friends—well, it was a huge risk to be exploring the woods, specially for a party of one. That was the simple truth. Oh, but the stories. The stories had seduced him to leave home as soon as he was old enough to do so. He could still hear the whispers from dragons he preferred to avoid, but right from the corner he used to eavesdrop on them he still learned of the rumours, learned of gossip and tales that filled him with fantastical wonder. They talked about the ruins; of those yet to be discovered and explored and the many secrets, artifacts and curious trinkets easily found within the surviving monuments. Centuries upon centuries of history and bygone eras were just waiting to be discovered, and Kirin’s curiosity was bigger than his common sense, so he had to take his chance. It didn't come as a surprise to anyone in the village when he packed his things (the very few things he had) and ventured forth to find the adventure wherever it awaited him. He had always been the curious kind. Longing for a life of wonder and excitement. A life he could not achieve within the bounds of his own clan. Every day in the village just felt incredibly... dull. To him at least. Yes, he had always been the odd ball, even if it didn't make much sense. Despite the fact that his clan was blessed by the Shadowbinder’s favour, Kirin’s clanmates hardly took upon themselves to honor her and her traditions. Tricksters and deceivers? My, you would expect as much of a shadow flight clan under any circumstances, but Kirin’s clan prefered safety and commodity over games or mischief. When he had offered to take along those as curious as he was with him, many dragons took a step back to his surprise. “Explore the ruins? That’s foolish. You aren’t an archeologist, are you?” “You're just asking for an early grave, Kirin.” “Give it up Kirin. What could you possibly find out there?” Who knows? A life-changing experience, like-minded friends— hell, even a funny looking rock would be better than to just wait around home for something cool to happen. Of course, no one cared for Kirin's lack of fulfillment nor sympathized with his vision. Why would they? Everything was perfectly great at home and there was no use in trying to change things. So he left. He left for good. He had no parents who could worry over his safety while he was away, nor any siblings to take care of. Kirin was free to do as he pleased, so he did. He left his clan in hopes of finding even the littlest spark of joy once surrounded by the unknown, he had waited his entire life for a chance to leave to appear right before his eyes. And it did! He was finally free. Even if he ended up finding nothing, Kirin would be satisfied by just taking this first step into independence. If anyone were to ask him, he would say finding that funny looking rock he had imagined bumping into as he explored would be ten times better than staying with his clan any longer; of that he was sure. Little did Kirin know his life would change forever. For the better? Well, not exactly. His fate wasn't meant to be disfavouring either. Good and evil aren't concepts found within the abyss. |

Hi I'm Nico and sometimes I exalt and sometimes my heart is too weak and I save dragons from Fodder Hell to pretend I can progene them so they can attain their Ultimate Forms, despite that I'm so so very poor.
And as you can see, this is a lore/progene lair in the making, so yeah. I sure try.
