You look around and find yourself standing inside a massive hanger. Behind you, the hanger opens wide, and you turn and gaze across the asteroids and skeletal space ships as they drift and tumble in the eerie expanse of space. Welcome to the Reef.
Before you, the platform you are standing on splits off into several short metal staircases. To your left, on a slightly elevated section of this platform, an Awoken female with short pink hair stands, relaying orders to those around her. She twirls a deadly knife between her fingers, tosses it in the air, and catches it with ease. This is Petra, Regent-Commander of the Reef. And while she is of importance, you find that she is not the one you are looking for.
You scan the area laid out before you. Before you even realize it, you're striding forward, away from Petra's miniature command station. You make a slight left turn to find a small dome-shaped structure. Warm orange light pours from the round, open entrance, and its occupant rushes out and forward. Stepping back, you take in his appearance.
He is definitely Fallen, you think, as his four blue-white eyes gleam at you. In one of his four claws, he gripped the staff he carried. Green robes fell to his knees, rimmed with gold and the chest section splashed with a distinctive white Fallen symbol. The House of Judgement, you think, uncertain as to how you know this. The brown fur around his neck ruffles with his movement as he tilts his head and beckons to you. This is Variks, the Loyal.
"Come here. I would have your scent." Variks says in his guttural voice, continuing to motion. Recalling that Fallen identify humans by scent, you heed him and approach.
"I am Variks of House Judgement. Are you looking for the Prison, Guardian?"
You know immediately of what he speaks. The Prison of Elders, a kill or be killed arena where enemies of the Awoken Queen are pitted against Guardians in battle. The fights held within its walls are legendary, as are the treasures rewarded to those victorious. But you aren't looking for a fight. Not yet. Variks tilts his head again. He seems to pick up on your thoughts.
"Tell me, did you come here for secrets... or stories?"
You aren't quite sure how or why you ended up here, but you suddenly find yourself quite intrigued. Storytime with a Fallen as knowledgeable as Variks was sure to yield great tales. A silent understanding passes between you.
"Then sit, and I shall tell you many tales, yes. Of the Eliksni, and of times past."
