The Brightlands do not experience true night. Even midnight is a dim twilight, mitigated by lanterns and the local wildlife.

After sunset, a thick blackness descends upon the ruins. Their inhabitants--scholars, criminals, cultists--scurry indoors, where candles cast odd, jumping shadows. The darkness is cold and grasping, and not all those it swallows are seen again.
