Hello, all. I've been on FR for a few years and am addicted to dragons - so many pretty/awesome dragons! @w@ Though there isn't (yet) a breed I don't like, my favorite breeds are Coatls, Faes, Nocturnes, Wildclaws, Gaolers, and Aberrations. I'm excited to see how the other Ancient Breeds turn out! =D
Also, Nemcrois #96985 is my sister.

Familiars, especially those not in my bestiary
Aberrations and their genes
The Merry Going Spark Clan
(a certain crew of pirates may or may not have influenced me here...)

In the wilds of the Starfall Isles outskirts - in the borderland where Crystalspine Reaches met the Wandering Contagion of the Scarred Wasteland - a lone female Fae hatched with an affinity for Lightning. She named herself Mae. With no parents or clan to guide her, she wandered alone in this borderland between two inhospitable feeling magical energies - until she ran across Kree. He was the same as her, a Fae with an affinity for Lightning and alone in the world.
The two quickly bonded and set about making a home together. But this was not meant to be in this area. For one, they did not join the Arcane Flight, and thus were not welcome to make lairs in any of the Arcanist's more hospitable territories. The Plague Flight felt even more wrong, and didn't appear to have any territories that would appeal to them anyway. Which left them with this sparse borderlands filled with Longneck and Centaur beastclans, which they did try to co-exist peacefully with, but prejudice and lack of understandable communication made this impossible. So Mae and Kree decided to leave and follow an instinctive pull to the East.
They traveled through the outskirts of the Wandering Contagion at first (with little choice otherwise), keeping to the South edge of the territory so as to avoid trouble with any Plague clans or indigenous predators. The magical energies here had an effect on Mae though, changing her basic hue of rose to look poisonous and toxic on her body and wings. Though Mae wasn't harmed nor did her skin actually become poisonous, she was still quite frightened at the transformation. Kree did his best to reassure her, but internally he was just as spooked that the Plague energy had affected her so. They both agreed not to travel in this territory anymore and ventured further south.
Which brought them directly into the tricky winds of the Windswept Plateau's Reedcleft Ascent. While most adult Wind dragons navigate the area with aplomb, the smaller, unprepared Faes were very nearly thrown by the wind into the stair-like cliffs or the rapids below. They were saved from this fate, however, by the compassionate and friendly Spiral known as Sierra. She brought them to the much gentler Zephyr Steppes, where Mae and Kree could land safely and rest. Rest being rather subjective, since the Spiral had a million questions for the tired pair. After the friendly and determined interrogation ("Who are you?! Where are you from?! What's your favorite food?!" etc), Sierra enthusiastically took it upon herself to be the little Faes' hostess and teach them everything she knew.
Thus, Mae and Kree stayed in the Windswept Plateau for a time, learning the history, geography, and songs of their world that they'd been ignorant of. Naturally, communication was difficult, but Sierra never gave up or lost patience with them. Most dragons here were peaceful, friendly folk (if sometimes overly energetic) who would also stop by to give various (sometimes even contradicting) lessons. Sierra also tried giving them flying lessons to improve their flying, but merely watching her chaotic, twisting flight maneuvers made them dizzy and confused. Luckily, a more mellow and level headed Wildclaw by the name of Kilo was watching the disaster that was Sierra's flight training and decided to step in before the Faes twisted themselves into knots trying to imitate the Spiral. Although intimidating at first, it turned out that Kilo was an excellent and patient teacher, and after a few short weeks under his wing both Mae and Kree mastered the Reedcleft Ascent (though it was agreed by both themselves and Kilo that they were just too small and delicate for the ferocious Twisting Crescendo). In this time, the magical energies of the Wind mutated Kree, transforming his basic body with a Cherub gene and giving his wings a Butterfly pattern. Both Kree and Mae had to be sat down and explained that this was perfectly natural; that dragons that hatched without pronounced genes usually developed them naturally with time and influenced by the surrounding magical energies or even bought magics to instigate them developing from markets and auctions.
Although it was tempting to settle in this peaceful yet erratic place, Mae and Kree still felt that pull to migrate to the East. They thanked Sierra and Kilo for all their help and explained that just could't find it in themselves to settle down here. The Spiral and Wildclaw had become attached to the little Faes and felt responsible for them (Kilo especially, being the biggest out of the four and naturally protective of others he cared for), so they decided to journey with them. Knowing the Faes had an affinity for Lightning, Kilo guessed that the pull the Faes were feeling was coming from the Stormcatcher's domain, the Shifting Expanse, were the most concentrated lightning magical energies could be found. After consulting the maps in their possession, the four agreed that going East through the Sea of a Thousand Currents and then South at the Tsunami Flats would be the fastest course to their destination. They gathered supplies and set off.
