A single ancient egg unearthed…

Thought long extinct by some, those who believed Xals chosen gone should have known better. ‘Ever rising like the phoenix’ was a snarl spat often by those who wished them out of the picture.

They were seen by extreme factions of Nature and Light as just another walking influenza. The dragons of plague are most often know as cruel, vicious and uncaring. By their enemies, Xals Flight was called horrors, monsters and terrors.

But by many others, the sight of them sent relief, not fear. Filled with poisons, cancers and viruses, that is true. But like a sineater, they used their venoms and infections to heal and embetter their fellow dragons.

A weak bacteria gave protection from real contagions, while special toxins would kill off scepticism and stimulate the body into regenerative overdrive.

Bound together not just by blood, all of this clan carried a symbiotic disease called ‘Xals gift’. It healed and protected those who had it, while allowing them to influence other infections in and around them.

Their Flight worked to research, control and use their dark gifts to improve the quality of life and help evolve their brethren, clans be damned.

Xals Gift also acted as a container of genetic information, giving them a communicative and racial memory.

The techniques to control this have been lost, and the new wurms will have to relearn how to tap into this power. But one thing's for certain:

The Children of Xal have returned to the world.
