Some say that spirits linger. Spirits of dragons, ancient and mighty, still roaming their original domains. They manifest themselves in chill breezes, in lingering shadows, and in the soft crunch of claw against autumn leaf.
Many dragons write them off as tricks of the mind.
These phenomena wax and wane. Every few millennia, the shadows that wander the darkest corners of our world will vanish, and the legends about roaming spirits in that area will fade. The spirits return, however. They always do.
They are not to be trifled with.
They are forces of nature.
They are long-dead, but given eternal life.
They were the first to walk the earth, and they will be among the last.
