Erzulie's Clan

Lore is very much in progress. Erzulie's clan is a small, closely-knit family of spiritual and mystical beings that dwell deep within the swamps and marshes of the Gladekeeper's territory. It is based completely around the deities and practices of Haitian Vodou, which has always fascinated me. Thus, the following loa (or Vodun "saints", if you will. Servants of the Goddess) are represented in our lair:

Erzulie: The matriarch herself. Loa of love, nurturing and protection. She rules the clan with a strict but fun-loving grasp, and is viewed as more of an oracle to be worshipped than a mortal being. Has three husbands who make up her personal guard, and mates with any of them at any given time to help grow the clan. Performs most of the major rituals and sacrifices to honor Bondye (the clan's sacred god) and the Gladekeeper. She loves to dance and loves flowers, leaves and all things that grow. She's also quite fond of jewelry and often wears three rings, one for each of her husbands.

Agwe: 'Zulie's first husband (random progenitor), also the eldest and the father of her firstborn hatchlings. Agwe is the voice of the clan and the representative to outside clans. He is calm, steadfast and loyal. He may not be the most cunning, but he cares deeply for his wife and the others in their protection.

Damballa: Second husband of Erzulie. (WIP)

Ogun: Third husband of Erzulie. (WIP)

Samedi: Loa of the grave, keeper of the veil between life and death. He alone decides who to accept into the afterlife when their time comes. He is rude, loud, lecherous and lives a life of debauchery and drinking. It's a wonder his wife puts up with him at all.

Brigitte: Wife of Samedi, this long-suffering loa serves as the healer and head nature priestess in the clan. She attempts to save the poor battered souls that appear on their doorstep before Samedi whisks them off to the underworld. She is constantly stressed and arguing with her husband.

Legba: Guardian of the crossroads. (WIP)

Zaka: Responsible for agriculture, farming and gathering. (WIP)

Simbi: Communes with the weather and possesses powerful earth magic. (WIP)

The Marasa Twins: Identical twin orphans, one male and one female. Eternally youthful. (WIP)

Chalotte: Speaks only in French, no one can understand her. Is a pickpocket and a con artist. Very charming, good at fitting in just about anywhere, but difficult to communicate with. (WIP)
