Clan of the Northern Star

I am Polaris, leader to the clan. I am a female guardian dragon, with brilliant ice scales and sky colored wings. I run this clan exceptionally well. I may not look it, but I am still quite young. I take care of everyone and everything. | Our clan has seen quite the turn out in the years. You see, we were once a small clan, with only three dragons. That would be myself and my family. We soon grew into a much larger clan, that you will hear of soon. |
We were but a simple clan. It was just myself. Until my mate Polarlicht came. He was one of the first few members of the clan. I had found him injured far beyond what I believed could be repaired. You see, he had been attacked by a dragon who worked for the Shade. He said it went rogue and attacked. He tried to fend it off, but failed. None the less, he said it was more like a large monster. I did not know where he came from at the time, nor the story, but I brought him to the other dragon in our clan. They were a healer, and I allowed them to try and heal the weakened dragon. It would be at this time, I learned many things about my soon to be mate.
He had been to three other clans before. Each with a different mate, none the less! I welcomed him, however. Should he stay for a day or a month, it did not matter! Much to my surprise, he seemed to enjoy our lair and decided to stay! That was quite some time ago!
Things seemed simple until we were visited by our next member of the clan. This was followed by another and another. We were soon gaining several travelers, who seemed to take up residence in our home. I wasn't sure what to do, other than welcome them with open arms.

I'm not the type of dragon to turn anyone away. There was no need to. We were a growing family, and as such, we needed every claw we could get.
Things seemed to look up for us. It wasn't until a fateful night, things began to change. You see, the dragons have begun waging war against the beast clan. We, as a simple clan, didn't want much to do with them. It was nothing more than just a mindless battle with beasts. It seemed fruitless. I would rather welcome those who decided that fighting wasn't worth it, instead of fighting against them. |
Even then, we had to eat. This meant sometimes encroaching on territory that we did not know didn't belong to us. Polarlicht was one who tried his best to make sure we ate well, but also did not anger any nearby inhabitants.
I suppose you could say we were already endangering ourselves on our location, but I don't see it that way. Rather, it was just a bad time for all of us. |
|
A harsh winter had hit, so each dragon was working hard to scrape together any and all food we could hit. As such, some went further than expected. This caused casualties. My mate was one of them. Our healer was another. They perished in the battle that took us by surprise.
They weren't expecting an ambush, but it happened. Raptoriks, Marens, and other beasts attacked. It seemed we were taking what little food they had. We wanted to survive too, but I suppose this is what happens. Polarlicht sounded the alarm, but was soon silenced off. The rest attacked, ripping limb and scale from the beasts. It was bloody, but it had to be done. |
When I arrived at the scene, I found him. He was coated in blood and snow, breaths weak and shuddering. I wasn't sure what to do. What could I do? He was dying.
We stood beside him, hoping he'd make it. We had neither a healer nor medicine to help fight off Maren poison. We knew he was doomed. |
His name was Solas, a beautiful wildclaw male who saw the battle. Ushering us aside, he made sure we were safe. He then began to heal my mate.
He seemed to have been sent from the deities themselves. Such a beautiful green wildclaw! He healed my mate, saved him from the brink of death. The least I could do was offer him a place to stay. He agreed and moved in. We knew that it wouldn't be over. It never is. |
We were forced from our home a few months afterward. Several dragons perished, but we had saved enough coins to get us a new home.
This one was stronger than the last. No thin ice for us! It was also roomier than the last. We had room for our new family. While some did not survive, we made sure we honored them. Makeshift statues adorned their graves, as well as our home. Each place has its own hearth and a picture of a lost dragon. Our home is but a simple one, but it's important. Our lair has but a simple history, perhaps not as well as the others. But we have a rich history, built within each dragon. |
Our motto still stands:
"Welcome, all ye who enter here. You are safe and sound within our home."
"Welcome, all ye who enter here. You are safe and sound within our home."
