Because functionally, they are different types of dragons.
Similarities:
-Start off as triple Basics
-No parents
Progens Only:
-Only Plentifuls
-Created at the beginning of the game
-Only two ever (one custom, one random)
-Give no Treasure/Gems when exalted
-Cannot be traded or sold
Gen Ones Only:
-Plentifuls or Nocturnes
-Hatched from Unhatched Dragon Eggs
-Infinite number
-Gives Treasure/Gems when exalted
-Can be traded or sold
Plus, and I'm sure Gen Ones collectors will understand this, it can be irritating to find a Gen One through Search and inquire whether it is for sale, only to find out that it is a progenitor and can't be sold.
This'll also probably stop the newbies, that don't know the difference, from trying to sell their random progen if they happened to get one with nice colors.
So, what I'm proposing is this to differentiate them:
-When you hover over the dragon, if it's a Gen One or a Progenitor, it'll say "First Generation" under parents. For progens, I think it should say "Progenitor" instead.
-Likewise, on the dragon's page itself, it should say "Progenitor" or "None (Progenitor)" under parents.
Just a small, cosmetic change that I think would help.
EDIT (1):
-More options are to add a small symbol in the way that the sex, familiars, Flight, and breeding cooldowns are. (Thanks, Coalescency!)
EDIT (2): Altered a bit to clarify the differences between them.
