During the day, the place was bustling - the attached coffee shop was a huge draw due to both the cold weather outside and the tasty beverages served. While sipping on your hot chocolate, you glance over and see a notice posted on a board. Apparently the clan is collecting tales of legendary artifacts. Just beyond him, you can see some cozy reading areas and shelves of books lining the walls. "Welcome to Clan Diamond Dust," he said, carefully looking you over. "I take it you are here to provide the information we requested?" Without pausing, he leads you inside. "You may be wondering why we have asked for clans to bring tales of lost artifacts to our clan. Hmmphhh. Light dragons, of course, have a reputation of producing scholars," he said rather proudly (clearly a scholar himself, judging by the books he carried). "Arcane dragons, of course, love dealing with magical energies - they may have even created many of the artifacts lost to history. Earth dragons love gemstones and history, so it makes sense that..." The Guardian continues on, going through seemingly every flight and their connection to legendary artifacts. With his monologue more suited to a lecture hall with a class of eager students, your attention wanders to the surroundings, taking in the walls of glorious books and artwork. Realizing that your guide has stopped speaking, you guilty swing your attention back his way. "...and as I was saying," he glares at you, "Ice dragons aren't given enough credit for their interest in preserving our history and making sure the information is documented for future scholars. As such, artifacts are very important to my clan and preserving the knowledge of them is even more important. Wands, weapons, cursed or blessed gems, random magical doodads - we want to catalog them all. And that's why we put out the call for volunteers to share their stories with us." The Guardian points down the hallway. And yet, if they looked closer, they would be able to see it glistening, even as it lay on the ground. If they picked it up, the wand would almost vibrate in anticipation of being used, the ice crystals sparkling in the light. Less told tales say that it can freeze the ground and cause great chasms to open and swallow the enemy. Others say that it can shatter any object – or dragon, while still others say that it can turn even the great sea to ice. Some dragons have embarked on expeditions to the Fortress of Ends to find this legendary weapon: to bring glory to their clans or to win dominance in battle or to sell for great riches. Most never returned. Of those very few dragons who did return to their clans with their lives spared, even fewer were willing to speak of their journey. Those who did warned of great danger and hardships – the bitter cold, the monsters frozen in ice. Still, their tales were not enough to deter other treasure-seekers. And the number of creatures trapped in unending preservation in the spires of impenetrable ice in the fortress continues to grow…

Name: The Lost Wand of the Icewarden

Description: A wand of permanently frozen water that glistens when the light catches it in the right way - very old and very powerful. Rumored to have been created by the Icewarden himself, the wand has been lost for centuries. It is said to have the ability to freeze dragons in their place and turn the sea to ice. Example 2 (my entry in the Sorcha's Wand Contest, which inspired this event):

fv2ectY.png

Name:
The Lost Wand of the Icewarden

Short Description:
A wand of permanently frozen water that glistens when the light catches it in the right way - very old and very powerful. It may be your imagination, but is that something trapped inside the ice?...

Lore:

It is said, lost deep in the underground labyrinth of The Fortress of Ends, lies one of the most powerful magical objects in the Southern Icefields - the Wand of the Icewarden. Hidden in plain sight, the wand resembles a typical icicle – translucent but also opaque, smooth and yet craggy; many dragons would walk right past this mighty weapon and not even know how close they were to greatness.

And yet, if they looked closer, they would be able to see it glistening, even as it lay on the ground. If they picked it up, the wand would almost vibrate in anticipation of being used, the ice crystals sparkling in the light.

Its very existence is a closely guarded secret of Ice dragons – few know of its powers and even fewer know where the wand might be found. Whispered stories, told over the fire during the long, cold winter nights, hint at its abilities. Legends of entire armies frozen by the wand are common.
