Hello there everybody! Welcome to the Official Flight Rising Dungeons & Dragons Friends Group/Discord! We're a bunch of self-proclaimed nerds who enjoy making characters, going on quests, beating up badguys (or goodguys, we don't necessarily discriminate) and looting treasure!

What is D&D?
D&D is, in its original form, a tabletop-based role-playing game set in a vast variety of different worlds/timelines. In fact, it's basically the RPG that make RPGs what they are today. If you can picture any of the games in the Witcher series, or the game Fable, or even the Overlord games, or really any other RPG that involves swords and sorcery, you can bet it owes its existence at least in part to D&D. Dungeons and Dragons as a whole is a very imaginative fantasy-style game fit for all ages!
In D&D you create your own character. While the character capabilities are laid out in the Player's Handbook of your particular edition of rules, the lore of your character is completely up to you. This is an incredibly open-ended game, in that you can make whatever decisions you think fit your character best, and the person running the game (the DM, or Dungeon Master) is in control of what happens based on those actions.
What edition rules do you use?
We use 5th Edition, which is as of the creation of the Flight Rising D&D Friends Discord the latest version. If you wish to play by the older rules, contact your DM, but by no means are you limited to 5th Edition... It is just the main one we are going to be playing.

What if I'm new, and have never played before?
If you've never played D&D before but want to join in, that's fine! You don't need to be familiar with the game; we'll gladly show you the ropes and get you up and rolling with your own character built within 5th Edition D&D (or older rules). It's a fun game, and it's exactly as involved as you want it to be; want to be a warlock who shreds everything in his path because you can? Excellent! Want to be Faure, Exiled Lord of the Northern Elves as you fight to reclaim your honor and your crown? Why th' heck not! You can be anyone/anything you want to be! (within reason).
If you want to learn 5e, it's not that terribly difficult, especially if you're already familiar with some form of D&D. If you have any questions... dont hesitate to ask, even if it seems to be about something that doesn't really matter or it's some tiny little detail, we're willing to help figure out or track down an answer - after all, sometimes the little details mean the most!
