The four houses (Starseeker, Dreamstrider, Shatterspell and Runesworn) compete once a year in a battle for the ultimate prize: the Arcane House Cup! This week is each House's last chance to change the standings before the Cup is awarded, and the entire Observatory School gets to celebrate the results! So while the students are hard at work, the Heads of each House are offering tours to dragons from outside the Starfall Isles! This dragon came together with a friend and together they founded the Houses Starseeker and Dreamstrider. Starseeker focuses on what they consider the “pure” Arcane pursuit: astronomy. Starseekers are adept at tracking the night sky, and know by heart the many obscure astrological bodies, events, and rules that organize the skies of Sornieth. Despite this focus on Arcane purism, Starseekers also tend to be the most technologically oriented, studying electricity and magical mechanisms to serve them in their study and recording of the stars. [b]Starseeker dragons are determined to win House Cup to prove Starseeker is the most worthy. They are studious and hard-working dragons who believe their love of the stars above will lead them to victory.[/b][/size][/columns][/quote] [columns][size=4]Starbright, the Head of the House he was named after, leads you away from the Observatory, causing many dragons in your tour group to whisper amongst themselves in concern. From the edge of the Starwood Strand, Starbright gestures out across the water, back toward the Focal Point. The Starseeker Dormitories line the cliffs of the Focal Point, and each room has a window through which they can observe the night sky with their telescopes - or as we like to call them in Starseeker, Eyes of Fewer Lenses! Ha ha ha.” He laughs at his joke, seemingly unaffected by the number of dragons who missed it entirely. “Anyway, what you see now is the moonlight reflecting off each telescope’s lense. Shatterspell’s students may not know all the leylines in Sornieth by heart like the Dreamstriders, but—they would say—they don’t need to. Focusing on spellsmithing, scroll creation, and the general experimentation with magic, Shatterspellers look at an old scroll and ask [i]Why not this other way?[/i] Known both for their genius and their vast capacity and indifference for collateral damage, Shatterspell students are haphazard but talented, dedicated but careless. [b]While Starseeker and Runesworn dedicate their efforts to besting the other Houses, Shatterspell dragons are driven by self-improvement and curiosity. A few lone students were are nestled amongst of scrolls and notes. There seems to be little organization among them save for the fact that everyone maintains safe distances from each other’s projects as an unspoken safety measure. Towering stained glass windows are open to let in a very out-of-place serene view of the peaks of the Crystalspine Reaches. Well... it would be serene if it weren’t for the thick, glitter laced smoke being fanned out through the open windows. [b]“Be sure to grab your badge of choice on your way out, bold Shatterspell! Searching the small places of Sornieth for forgotten spells and phenomena, they are particularly talented at manipulating and creating charmed or cursed objects, as well, of course, as the study and use of runes. It is Runesworn who is mostly likely to develop a magical weapon, or find some way of concentrating power into an object. Often, Runesworners plunder the Shadowbinder’s domain for thrown-away artifacts, and the older students conduct a healthy trade with Lightning dragons who don’t mind dealing with temperamental magical machina. But not everyone looks kindly on Runesworn. While Shatterspell students are dangerous, they do so out of a certain lack of foresight. Runesworn pupils have been caught investigating and experimenting with dark magicks, and even attempting to commune with Shade. [b]Runesworn is a competitive House. Runesworn dragons will do anything necessary to secure a win, and many of them will even go out of their way to show off the tactics they've employed, eager to let everyone else know how cutthroat they are.[/columns][/quote] [columns][size=4]“Welcome to Runesworn! The portrait opens and he steps inside the dimly lit room. Books, opened and closed alike, are stacked and scattered everywhere - from the tables to the corners to the floor. Dragons are resting on the couches, reading books that seem suspiciously related to the dark arts. A bored air of interest hangs over them. Portraits on the walls are tilted and a cyan coloured blaze glows at the hearth of the room. Runes are scratched untidily on the floor and a strange aroma from the scented candles fills the room. In a corner, a small group of dragons are chanting something while dancing around a blaze, runes glowing around them. Overall, the room is a little off-putting… Another dragon in your tour group murmurs that they feel at home here, and the others are quick to agree. [*]Last year's Profit House Cup was won by Runesworn - both profit and exalts. [*]Legend has it that the reason the Starseeker and Runesworn banners are always as far from each other as possible is to avoid starting yet another shouting match about which House is better. [*]Legend also has it that it was a Dreamstrider who instated that unofficial rule in order to keep chaos to a minimum. [*]The current default order for the House banners was chosen because both Starseeker and Runesworn agreed to it. Starseeker is first in the order, just as they were the first House; Runesworn is fourth, because you save the best for last!
