Some crystals draw in more energy than others, and those that draw in enough will start to develop sentience. These crystals then break down into shards which move and reform into the shape of a dragon. The element of the sentient crystal matches the element they've absorbed during growth. A crystal formed in the viridian labyrinth will be nature element. The crystal's dragon breed will follow a similar pattern in that they will copy the form of either the first dragon they see or the most common they see, resulting in most crystals taking on the form of the dragon native to the place they grew. For example, a crystal grown in the ashfall wastes will most likely become a coatl.[/columns] [columns]Crystals can also be artificially infused with magic to grant them sentience. However, these crystals are less developed in both sentience and form, often only being able to form a smaller dragon form similar to a hatchling. Their element will match the magic artificially infused, and the breed will likely match the dragon that granted them sentience. Sentient crystals lack a gender and don't tend to identify as a specific gender either. They may appear more feminine or masculine, or try to copy the gender expression of dragons around them, or may simply remain without an explicit gender identity. However, this isn't always the case. Some sentient minerals may be given a name by another dragon, especially if the mineral was artificially infused. Given names tend to be picked by the first dragon the sentient mineral meets, or the one who gave them sentience if they're artificially infused with magic. A less common variant of sentient crystals has been discovered recently. They were made of metal like some of the sentient minerals but they had symbols on them, a few seams in the metal. These dragons weren't formed naturally.
