The valley lays quiet, dormant and almost lifeless. Snow slowly falls to gather upon the already laid out blankets of ice crystals. A mountain that towered above this particular area, clearly occupied by a number of dragons by the scouts who could be seen stretching their wings through the low laying clouds, gathering frost and fog over their scales, diving around and keeping an eye on the pine trees that provided the only shelter a intruder may use.
The Cloudscape Crags are not a home for every dragon. Most cannot stand the vicious blizzard winds that leave no scale un-bitten and frost-less. Many do call the cliffs home however when they find a fortress of stone and ice built into the rocky walls. This winter castle of sorts provides a warm oasis in the terrible weather, her inhabitants happy to bring in any hard working dragon into her embrace. On top of it all, King Prospect watches and manages his subjects carefully.
Hundreds of mouths to feed do need a responsible leader after all.
One side of the Gelu Clan Fortress is well protected, the fog laden mountainous back making up more then half of the Fortress walls. The other half if well protected by Prospects guards, both inside and out. The Outer walls face an expansive valley speckled with pine trees and ice lakes used for ice fishing. The pines provide some shelter to prey that wander close but for the most part the hunters and trappers of the Gelu clan must make day trips in troops to further lands to gather the prey needed to fill the Gelu Dragons stomachs.
Within Clan Walls
The East Spire
One of the largest ice and rock spires that crawl up the crags to overlook the Gelu Clan Fortress. The East Spire is also often called the Throne Rooms consist of three rooms connected by spiral stairs.
The main room is composed of an open room with many large windows. A large cozy mattress of silk and satin pillows sits in the middle where King Prospect spends most of his time resting, in covered in his fae servants who obey his every command; feeding and grooming the large old tundra. Prospects subjects meet him in this room with their complaints, suggestions and requests. There is almost always a highly trusted guard to be found at his side, usually the old kings head guard and mate Berry. The Advisor, Alexios may also be found in here a lot of the time when hes not in the second Spire. A Frozen Goblin can often be found cuddled up with Prospect as this is his familiar.
The second room is the kings vault and personal hoard. This room is above the Throne Room and beside his personal den. This has the Gelu Clans most prized possessions, their treasure, gemstones, and other valuable items.
The third room is King Prospects den. This is a room about half the size of the throne room, full of cozy pillows and blankets. While usually he only goes here to sleep, he does go here from time to time when he needs his privacy or time with his Berry. Berry goes here to sleep about half the time as well since its big enough to accommodate both of them cozily.
The West Spire
Here is where the observatory at the top and the advisors quarters is. Many dragons go here to meditate, seek guidance from the oracles or advisor and to watch the skies from the observatory. The observatory has a large window on the ceiling, allowing full vision of the passing skies without the aid of the telescope to the left. To the right of the room, there's a horseshoe of cozy pillows and blankets for the Advisors and oracles to sleep if they wish. Alexios, the advisor can be found up here most of the time, and the Weather Oracle Aliquam can be found up here almost always.
The “Oasis” and Vent Saunas
The Oasis is a pool of steamy water in a rocky basin in the middle of the Gelu Fortress. This water vent is used as a public bath and is how most dragons choose to warm up. A quick walk to one of the several chamber underground, Saunas of sorts resides where dragons can also warm up, or dry off after their bath as to not get sick. Dragons who do get sick are often suggested to stay in these chambers most of the day to stay warm and burn off their colds or flus.
The water refills from the ground slowly so custodians don't have to worry about refilling it unless too many dragons get in at once. Occasionally they do have to chip the ice off the ground around it from the water spilling over though.
The East Dens
This is where the servants, custodians, blacksmiths, item makers, hunters and gatherers sleep. While they may mingle with the West Dens (usually to see a mate) they typically sleep here. Oracles and monks will also often sleep here. Two guards will stand watch at night for them. It is connected to the nests. The East Den is very cozy, many pillows and blankets shared among the hoard of dragons.
Each dragon gets their own cubby in the wall to keep a small hoard. There are sap nests above the other dragons on the roof for the Faes.
The Nests is a cozy underground den that is connected to the East den. This is where Nest Tenders and hatchlings sleep and where eggs are stored to be looked after. Even without a Nest Tender around the eggs remain warm due to being close to the Oasis vent.
The West Dens
This is where the Inner and Outer Guards sleep. While they may mingle with the East Dens (usually to see a mate) they typically sleep here. Kaph and Breath and occasionally Berry also sleep here to keep an eye on their dragons. At least one guard will stay awake at night here. The West Den is a bit less cozy then the East Den,only getting a blanket for every second dragon. These dragons much more hardened then their servant counterparts after all. Luckily for them however there are quite a lot of tundras in these communal dens. Each dragon gets their own cubby in the wall to keep a small hoard. The West den is connected to the Armoury, this is where armour and weapons are stored for easy access to the guards.
The Medic Ward
A cozy den a good way away from the dens to keep sick or injured dragons. A path is constantly cleared to the Oasis and vents so sick dragons can make their way there easier. Tripp and Kugelblitz man the ward.
The Forge and Workshop
The forge is where the Blacksmiths work, and the Workshop is where dragons who make other materials for the clan work, coming together almost always for making apparel, armour, and weapons for the guards. While they are only low ranking dragons they are very respected for their crafts.
The Community Hoard
The Community Hoard is where the clans food and material is stored. It is kept filled by the Hunters and Gatherers of the clan and may be taken from as a dragon wishes. This hoard is usually filled as much as possible with food. Its checked daily by Alexios.
Valleyrun Shrine
A rocky, very realistic statue of a Gaoler erected in a cave between the East and West Spire
Its hard to lock eyes with it, a deep cold going over any dragon who dares to approach without an offering. Occasionally the king can be seen slinking into it with gifts of food, gemstones such as ruby, silver, platinum and other beautiful things.
His favourite offerings being those of mute swans, leucistic axolotls and leucistic crows, snatching them up from the hoard before. While his object offerings never leave the back of the cave the food does seem to disappear... Hatchlings are banned from going anywhere near it after a few of Prospects own disappeared after going in/
Outside Landmarks
The Fortress Walls
The Wall that surrounds the buildings of the Gelu clan. Made of rock and ice blocks and perched on upon the outer wall guards during their watch. There is one iron cast gate-entrance on the ground always protected by 2 guards at all times. At the entrance, a rope connected to a bell to ring when the gate should be opened. Most dragons just fly over, but if a stranger approaches they are asked to present themselves at the gate to be examined by the Advisor.
The Abandoned Dens
What was once the home of 20 some dragons not too far from the Gelu clans territories. Due west. These dragons separated after some hard-times, quite a few of them coming to the Gelu Clan Fortress for shelter. Hunters often use this area as a meeting spot or a place to rest durring storms. It is over grown during the summer months
The Salt Spears
East of the Gelu Clan territories where the sea meets land, a black pebbled beach sits. Ocean water sprays up into the ice, freezing into large spikes pointing west. These spikes are entirely made of ice and salt and tastes terrible.
On the largest spear, a Tundras skeleton hangs by its skull, the salt keeping the remains together as if it was still alive and mid-thrash. No one dares to touch it, a horrible aura around it leaving a sense of fear and thoughts consisting of many unanswered questions regarding its horrible demise. There is not much here, but a lost dragon can always find its way by following the westward salt-icles.
Prospect refuses to talk about the remains of the tundra there.
The Leap of Faith and the Tundras
A steed clift due north of the Gelu Clan, just over the peak of their mountain. Even the most experienced of flyers dare not jump from its edge. The blizzard winds are strongest here, able to blow a fully grown guardian around like a rag-doll during storms. At the edge, when you look down all you can see is the clouds and fog like a blanket covering whats bellow. The bottom isn't unexplored however, a tundra bound forest hiding behind the rocks of pines and berry bushes protected by the ancient trees. An abundance of fruit and animals can be found here.
The Frozen Expanse
An expanse of nothing but snow and ice south of the Clan Territories. Nothing can be found here but occasional frozen remains. Its strictly forbidden to go far into it, as going too far and a blizzard hitting is certain death for any dragon not covered in fur and clothes who is smart enough to dig themselves under the snow and ice for shelter. While the clan faces it directly, little curiosity about it is stricken for young dragons. They are told very clearly what will happen if they step too far into the Frozen Expanse.
The Valley
Just outside the rock and ice walls of the fortress lays a massive valley for dragons to spread their wings. While for the most part its barren, its safe from the heavy winds coming from the north because of the mountain the Gelu Clan is built into. Past the Valley to the south is the Frozen Expanse, the border marked by a few ice towers and a pocket of pine trees. Rabbits can be found here, often caught by traps checked daily.
Within the Valley, a den under a massive pine-tree has been made to the west border. This den is inhabited by a very cranky male Guardian named Teda. Young dragons are advised to leave him alone, the elder simply taking care of his charge, a massive pine tree much taller then any other in the area that does not waver to the worst of storms. Most dragons are chased away from the area, though a few older or very young dragons have been invited into his cozy home during storms. Teda also lives with a mate.
They are considered 'part of the family'; if ever they needed help King Prospect would be happy to give it.
