A chill runs through your body as you make your way through the Scarred Wasteland. You can't help but throw a glance over your shoulder every few steps, paranoid that you're being tracked and followed.
After making a sharp right turn, you stumble to the side to keep from running headfirst into a bright green ridgeback. A plague doctor's mask covers his snout, cementing the fear of sickness that's been chasing you.
He pauses to look at you, before turning abruptly around and walking away from you. Unsure of what else to do, you follow him at a slower pace.
The chill of the air does little to distract you from the overwhelming silence. It's eerie in the way that it exactly fits the atmosphere of what you're going into. Caught up in your thoughts, you almost run directly into the ridgeback again.
Peering around him, you see a nocturne of identical colors curled around a nest of eggs. She's covered in thorns and roses, not bothered by any of them as they poke into her.
Looking closer at the eggs, you notice that they're all covered in a mucous-y substance thats color isn't too far off from their apparent parents. The silence stretches further between the three of you and you begin to walk slowly away from them, facing them as you do so.
Before you can get too far, you bump into yet another ridgeback male. You whirl around quickly, going on the defensive as you do so.
The ridgeback looks at the each of you in turn, before fully focusing on the other ridgeback male. He takes in a deep sigh. "I suppose that someone would've stumbled upon them eventually. Emry warned me of it, but I didn't listen. Let me introduce myself, I'm Gharil. Will you allow me to explain before you do anything rash?"
You don't cease your defensive posture, but do give him a slight nod.
At you allowance, he steps closer to the two noxiously green dragons. "We were happy, once. Gyrehex, my daughter, Emry, and I were all happy once. Gyrehex and I were married, you see. Everything was fine until... until I was infested with the rot. It wasn't long before Gyrehex and Emry were infected as well. I managed to stop the progression of my own and localize Emry's into gems, but... I was too late for my husband."
"I went mad from loss and the rot taking over. I worked endlessly, day and night to find... find a way to bring him back from the dead. Yuka over here happened to be my test subject. Well, one of my test subjects. She was the first I managed to bring back, and I didn't wait even a second until I used the same serum on Gyrehex. They were back, alive! But there was something missing. They don't seem to acknowledge or emote much if at all."
As he tells you this story, you cannot see Gyrehex's eyes, but he seems to be looking at Gharil as well. Yuka doesn't take her attention off of the nest, sniffing at each of the eggs carefully.
"No one was supposed to find out about them, but, well, here we are," Gharil chuckles dryly and looks at you. "I guess it's over, then?
What are you going to do?"
