Resting inconspicuously beneath the Beacon of the Radiant Eye lies a crumbling, ancient castle, constructed of ivory stone and sculpted marble. Carved into the cliffside, much of the palace retreats within the rock, and seafoam tickles its foundation. Rich, white woodlands surround the exterior, and on the right side, the pines are even snowcapped. It appears abandoned at first glance, but, upon looking closer, you may view a shimmering light reaching from the forefront of the construction...

Believed to be led to the mysterious castle by fate, outsiders view the ancient ruins as a refuge. Resting afront her pillar, Nasuada stares out through the thin fog. Visitors — whether immortal or mortal — are rarely welcomed. The queen is protective and cautious, shielding her family from Sornieth's flaws. The castle is a home for those who must hide from the conflict, but also a clan of warriors in secret, as dragons train to defend themselves if peril arises.

The castle itself is quiet. Light stone walls permeate the natural cliffside, merging into one solid wall. Within these walls lies a plethora of knowledge -- dusty books and scrolls line the stone. All about the castle, crumbling columns adorn the walls, constricted by golden vines. Beneath the exterior lay the vast, crashing ocean, glittering under the dawning sunlight.

HISTORY
You gingerly pick up a tattered scroll. It crinkles as you carefully unroll it, and neatly-written columns appear as you blow away the dust...

The castle was once abandoned, silent and alone above the calm sea. The Sunbeam Ruins were quiet, yielding only their first inhabitants. After the Shade's second invasion, the Lightweaver created new life. Timid hatchlings curiously crept about the region, unknowing of their destiny. Nasuada arrived soon after, as the Lightweaver replenished the region, creating yet more new life. Shyly, Nasuada, remained where she had awoken, as the gentle sunbeams warmed her golden scales. She glowed beneath the bright sun, squinting to observe the land. The swaying, golden meadows put the young Guardian at ease, and the clear sky watched over the ruins. But not eternally.

Nasuada had grown into her adolescence, regally displaying her bright, golden scales as she danced through the yellow fields gleefully, followed shyly by a young Wildclaw.
"Come dance with me, Buraq!" The Guardian continued to plead enthusiastically, exercising her limbs gracefully, despite her enormous size. The Wildclaw had collapsed upon the plateau during his journey from the Windswept Plateau to the Viridian Labyrinth. Flustered and anxious, he attempted to continue, but instead plummeted into the vast ocean below. Resting atop the cliff's edge, Nasuada witnessed the perilous event, and dived into the crashing waves, enduring the dry, salty seabreeze. Frantically, the Guardian scooped Buraq up towards her chest, beating her powerful wings against the current. As she surfaced, the small dragon awoke, wearily clinging to his savior. A few hours later, after he had rested, Buraq explained that he was delivering a letter to the Gladekeeper's realm. He seemed morose. Nasuada swore to herself that she would never seek more information than necessary.

From that moment on, the two dragons grew closer, prancing and hunting and resting together. Nasuada was not too much larger than the Wildclaw, only being around thrice his size, and the two wore a similar golden hue. However, Buraq had been born into the Wind flight, so the Sunbeam Ruins were a bit out of his element. The lands were similar in their brightness, he told her, but the ruins were far quieter. However, the silence was soon broken by a howling gust of wind. Thundering, black clouds flooded the sky; the dark sea violently rampaged, swallowing up the crumbling cliffside. Nasuada's cheerful dancing seized, pupils shrinking into feline-esque slits. Buraq froze, his feathery wings flared, talons gripping the golden grass. As a spiraling void split apart the sky, shadowy monsters poured out, clawed tendrils grasping towards Sornieth. Nasuada frantically snatched up Buraq in her claws, beating her shimmering wings against the ripping gusts of wind, taking flight. Fleeing was the only option.

The companions found themselves nestled within the eternal dusk of the Hewn City, hiding amongst the forested ruins. Buraq remained with her for a few weeks before offering for them to journey away, to his homeland of the Viridian Labyrinth. Supposedly, he had family there that would shelter the two, but Nasuada refused. Buraq finally decided to venture off on his own, wishing his companion good fortune and safety before leaving for the Viridian Labyrinth, leaving the Guardian alone for many years.

Eventually, the Guardian ventured out once more, abandoning the Hewn City. However, her golden scales had become a deep sable, no longer glowing vibrantly. Her disposition had become wary and serious; she no longer leapt about and played like a hatchling. As she explored the Sunbeam Ruins, her brothers and sisters seemed less joyful, more paranoid, awaiting the next attack. Nasuada sought to live in solitude. She approached the cliff where she had met her old companion, Buraq. Looking over the open ocean, she realized her melancholy. She had not seen the Wildclaw in years, and she wondered if he would ever return. Nasuada dove off the cliff. The brittle seaspray pelted her scales as she squinted, wings tucked into her sides; tears flew from her radiant, yellow eyes as she plummeted. She pondered, just before flaring her great wings above the sea's surface, barely dipping into the brisk ocean, gliding.

She soared over the open ocean for a while, contemplating. Eventually, she turned to climb the steep plateau, wondering where she may discover her solitude. As she approached the rocky face, she began to squint, noticing a pale stone structure... Only parts of it were visible, as it seemed to blend into the cliffside. At its forefront stood a reaching, hollow column. She cautiously approached, landing atop the pillar's narrow outcropping. Nasuada gazed up at the stone construction. The stone was littered with cracks, adorned with dense strands of ivy. She peered inside the pillar, sneaking inside. The entire palace appeared to be abandoned. Nasuada had discovered her place of solitude.

Nasuada grew accustomed quickly. Soon, she had explored the entire abandoned castle, and sketched out many rough copies of the map on large sheets of parchment. Her crumbling tower began to feel more like home as she decorated it with golden, hanging silks; rugs made of the beautiful blankets; and wall scrawlings from the guardian's own claw. One such score near the entrance of the pillar revealed the structure's epithet - "THE PANTHEON."

By the time a few seasons had passed, she had exhausted her tasks. The entire castle mapped, her ancient column embellished, food and materials gathered and stored; Nasuada endured a lonely existence. As she wandered out onto the cracked stone ledge, she gazed over the bright cove. Gentle waves rolled under the dawning sun, shimmering. She squinted, peering through the thin fog as a shadow approached; soon she could hear a faint flapping, and she roared out in greeting, or perhaps caution, raising her reflective, gleaming wings. She soon realized the figure was no stranger... it was Buraq.

Dens carved into the stone walls. Scattered within the ivory stone are clumps and protrusions of Pyrite. This area has attributes similar to a taiga, as it has been ferns and pines have been planted all around the outside. A light snowfall blankets this section in white.

— Ivory Woodland —
A lush temperate forest that grows along the castle walls, growing up the mountain. Atop a vast meadow, a mystical fairy circle lies in the center of the canopy.

— Dining Hall —
Presumably a forgotten ballroom, the immense room is furnished with cushions of all shapes and sizes. In the center lies an immense water fountain, which provides pure, magically-enhanced spring water to promote health.

— Hoard & Kitchen —
This storeroom and kitchen is where fresh food is stored, prepared, and cooked. Wooden crates line the walls, containing all sorts of foods.

— Living Quarters —
A two-story, open tower littered with cushions, blankets, and other cloths; the first floor is typically used for chatting, lounging, and studying, while the second floor holds the resting quarters.

— Vault —
The castle's most important trinkets and materials are stored in this vault, only accessible from the hoard and kitchen below. This room is always magically sealed.

— Bathhouse —
A stone, Roman-style bathhouse filled with mystical green spring water. The "baths" are actually natural hot springs; the water is always steaming hot, and soothes the muscles and mind. Bamboo, cattails, and other naturals surround the springs, giving off a pleasant aroma.

— Great Archives —
An expansive library located on the second floor of the castle. Enormous bookshelves line the stone walls, filled with ancient texts, scrolls, and books.

— Crafting Quarters —
A variety of items are crafted in this workshop. Clothing, armor, and weaponry are commonly made here by tanners, smiths, and weavers. However, these are not the only items crafted.

— Sentinel's Watch —
Emerging from the cliffside, the Watch is a slender, stone platform where the Sentinels watch over the entrance of the castle. Typically, two guards are posted here daily.

— Solar Gardens —
A large botanical garden square within the castle with twisting, worn pathways and an abundance of plantlife. Broken ivory columns surround the garden, constricted by vines of ivy. Within the center of the garden lies a lake, spotted with lilypads.

— Healing Quarters —
A large, cylindrical hospital isolated from the majority of the castle. Shelves carry herbs and colorful bottles; circular cushions of all sizes act as hospital beds. Magic is the primary source of healing, but traditional methods such as bandages are often used alongside it.

SUNBEAM SOLEMNITY

Each summer, the Summer Solstice blesses the Sunbeam Ruins with 12 whole hours of perpetual sunlight. In Sornieth's culture, dragons from all over the world gather around the Sundial Terrace and etch the outline of its giant shadow into the stone floors of the monument, an activity that has been practiced since before the Light dragons ever settled. To accompany this tradition, Dawn Castle hosts its own festivities, typically a week before the Brightshine Jubilee commences.

The Dining Hall of the castle is cleared and adorned with traditional golden silks and other decorations, transforming into a bright ballroom. For the duration of the evening, the ballroom bustles with laughter, leisure, and liveliness as dragons of all flights dance and commune.
