Word Wars/Sprints
Word Wars will be competitions to see who can write the most in a set amount of time. There will be a start time and a cut-off time for posting your word count/work. Word Wars/Springs will be hosted here.
Word Wars tend to be hosted randomly based on whoever is online at the time. If you would like a notice 1 hour before a Word War or Word Sprint begins, request to be added to the pinglist for Word Wars.

Write-Ins
Write-Ins will be times that we are all here writing together. Closer to November I will have a chat of some kind started where we can have a more live-time chat as we write. Any suggestions for this will be welcome.
Write-Ins dates have been announced here.

What is NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month occurs every year in November. Participants attempt to write 50,000 words of a novel in just one month. (That averages out to ~1,667 words per day!) It's a great time for writers to come together and finally get things done. That's right: no more blank Word documents. No editing, no deleting-- all words count towards that final goal. December is for editing; November is for writing.

Wait, but does it have to be a novel?
Nope! As long as you reach a word goal of 50,000 words in the month of November, then you win! That means you can write poetry, Dragon Lore, a script/screenplay, drabbles for every day-- as long as you write 50k in the month.

What if I don't reach 50k words? Or life gets too busy and I have to quit?
That's fine! I dropped out of NaNoWriMo at 12,500 words last year because Life Happened. NaNoWriMo is just a personal challenge to get yourself to write more, or start that story you've been planning for 7 years, or motivate yourself to finish all your dragons' lore! You can always try again next year, or look into Camp NaNoWriMo, an event that happens in April and July!
After all, as the NaNo website says, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Even if you end the month 49,000 words short, that’s 1,000 words you wouldn’t have otherwise."

This sounds cool, how the heck do I sign up?
Go to the official NaNoWriMo Website and sign-up! Then come on back over here and ping me to let me know that you're participating, so I can add you to the list!

But I don't wanna make an official account.
Well... okay, that's fine! You can still participate unofficially if you'd like!

What's a Word War? How is that different from a Word Sprint?
· Word Wars will be teams writing together to see how many words they can do in a set amount of time. These will be planned and announced a couple days ahead of time so that anyone interested can RSVP, and teams can be made.
· Word Sprints, on the other hand, are individual and take less time. It's the same premise: you see how many words you can write within a set amount of time. These will be announced closer to 24 hours ahead of time and will probably happen more frequently than Word Wars.
(And yes, we are working on a prize system for winners of Word Wars/Sprints.)

Can I write my novel on the NaNo Website? Do you know any sites/ideas on where to post/write my works?
Unfortunately, no, you don't write on the NaNo site. You have to write with your own processor/tech/on another site. But I do have suggestions! (No direct links because some of these sites are considered social media, are posted on by non-affiliated users, and might have Sensitive Content, but that can be avoided for the most part by tags/safe-view/etc.)
  • I personally use Google Drive/Docs, because I can easily share it with people via link/email and it's essentially the Google version of Microsoft Word.
  • There are some people who write on Wattpad, which is good for categorizing your novel genre-wise, but the tagging system is extremely lackluster and I personally am not a fan. (Although there have been novelists who make breaks through Wattpad.)
  • Tapas.io is more comic-geared but has a section for novels/written works, although I've never posted anything through there.
  • You could also try Tumblr or another blogging site.
  • There's a site called Figment that I've never used but is catered towards teen writers.
  • AO3 is a great site, although it's geared more towards fanfiction than original work; however, original work can still be published there, and its tagging system is amazing.
  • Scrivener is an app that I see tons of people use for NaNo, although you do have to pay for it. Apparently there's a similar app for free called yWriter.
  • Here's a good forum on the official NaNo website where people make threads about their favorite writing programs. Maybe one of these will catch your eye!

(Will be updated as questions come in.)

(Will be updated as questions come in.)

okay, I think that's all I've got for now-- 2017 NaNoWriMo Hub is now open!

quick ping to people that i've seen in the forums asking about NaNo hubs and the NaNo Discord thread started by JoyLayne:
@Arithelia @Buffykiev @Distantcrackers @JoyLayne @Amaranth41 @Freybug @Axicia @Nemesis @Harpies @Rexcaliburr

(apologies to anyone who didn't want to be pinged :$)

@Buffykiev oh wow! this is my 2nd year, and last year i only hit ~12,500 before i had to quit (curse my education!) but hopefully this year will be better since now i'm in college + have less classes/work than in high school.

i hope to see player-made badges too!! i might eventually make some myself, but i don't have a tablet/photoshop or anything like that, so i have to use online programs that are track-pad friendly for now. maybe some super basic ones, but i'd like to see people get creative with them!
