I arrived at the Draumer Den little more than a week ago and have observed much in my time here. In lore, Ice dragons are portrayed as cold and reclusive, and in some respects that is true, but in many ways that observation falls short of the truth. Dalmar, an Ice Snapper I met while searching for a lair that would take me in, has been kind enough to educate me somewhat on Ice clan culture. He has told me that most Ice dragon lairs are often well hidden in order to protect them from the extreme weather and invading clans. Had I he not been with me at the time I'm sure I would have missed most, if not all, the lairs we passed on the way here. I most certainly would have missed the Draumer Den's entrance if there not been a Guardian perched above it. He didn't seem surprised to see us, but simply asked us why we had come to the Den and sent us on our way. I later found out that that Guardian was the clan leader Abyssle and by allowing us to pass through he had given us his seal of approval to stay. It appears Every dragon here is allowed to pursue they're own ambition's as they see fit so long as they put their skills to use for the clan as a whole. At the moment I'm earning my keep by appraising and evaluating artifacts that are brought in or traded amongst the clan. Now that I've settled in I must find someone willing to take me into the Fortress. I am unsure how to approach the subject but I did not come all this way to fail.

August 27th, 2016

I've finally found someone willing to take me deeper into the fortress of ends. It has taken longer than expected. Few seemed to be willing to journey out beyond this lairs territory but Mistral happy to brave the elements, eager even. We leave at sun up tomorrow.

This might be even more difficult than I originally thought. It was my understanding that the ice that made up the spires could simply be chipped away until whatever was trapped within was released. After seeing the Fortress up close I'm sure that would prove to be impossible. The Ice itself is difficult to chip but not unbreakable. No, the problem lies with the fact that the ice regenerates at an alarming rate. I watched the scraping I had taken smooth over and disappear in less than a minute. At such a rate any progress made excavating would be undone as quickly as it was being made. Even so, there are clans living here in lairs hollowed into the spires and most seem to do so without becoming trapped. I have asked Mistral about this and he explained that Ice dragons are able to keep this growth at bay with regular maintenance. He has also told me that apparently this regenerative ability becomes less prominent the less exposed to the winter elements the ice is. The only boon of this first trip is that finding area's that are rich in artifacts is relatively easy. It's nearly impossible to see what the object is after a distance of a foot or more beneath the ice, but shapes and shadows are fairly easy to define even from deep within.

It is clear I will have to take a different approach to this excavation. I will have to find a place within the Druamer Den itself to dig from, and any help I hire will have to be from the Ice flight itself if I want to make any decent progress. There is also the matter of funds. I have asked Dalmar about this and he, in turn, has asked around the lair for anyone who might be willing to lend treasure to the expedition. Apparently, this lair's resident treasurer is quite wealthy. I'll have to see if I can convince her to give me a loan.

September 3rd, 2016

Things are finally starting to come together. Most improtantly, I have found a digging crew, a Coatl couple that, up until recently, have been assisting Abyssle with the upkeep of the tunnels. They have a passion for ice work and were willing to help for very little. I haven't had any luck finding an artifact heavy area in any of the tunnels I've explored so far, but it seems one of the Coatls might know a place. Haven says there is a spot where one of the mountain's lower tunnels meets the base of one of the ice spires. According to him, there are a great deal of shadowy objects trapped in the ice there. He's to take me down there once he finishes his duties for the day. In the meantime, I've arranged a meeting with the den's treasurer Aurum. If all goes well we can begin tunneling sometime within the week.

Aurum is, interesting, to say the least. She did not invite me into her lair but insisted we talk the cave entrance. She seemed eager to know if I was going to store my gold and when I told her of my plans for the excavation and asked her for a loan she very nearly turned tail and walked away before I even had a chance to try and persuade her. It was only after I convinced her that a profit could be gained that she agreed to a loan contract. I fear I may have just signed away my soul.

It's better than I could have ever hoped for! The location Haven showed me is definitely a prime spot for excavation but even more promising is that several shadows are quite large. I believe they might even be dragons. There have always been rumors of dragons trapped in the Fortress of Ends, but hearing rumors and seeing a possible reality are quite different. Whether the shadow turns out to be a dragon or not I'm eager to start digging as soon as possible.

September 24th, 2016 It has been four days since the start of the dig and we have made significant progress. We are nearing the first of the preserved artifacts one of which is most certainly a dragon although it is impossible to tell much else at this point. The dragon is surrounded by a cluster of square objects which we later found to be chests. We've only just reached the first of the chest, but with any luck, we should have the first of the dragons by the end of the week. We've done it! We have finally freed the first dragon from the ice spire. It's a male Pearlcatcher approximately 6.57M in length. He is unconscious at the moment and we have moved him to Callisto's medical wing for the time being. [i][b]Cetus[/b][/i] The Pearlcatcher woke up last night, unsurprisingly disoriented, and a little aggressive. It has occurred to me that I may need to hire one of the Den's warriors in the event of future altercations. In any case, once he calmed down somewhat I was able to learn a few things from him. First, this dragon's name is Cetus and he was a pirate captain aboard the Valex Latro. Apparently, he was quite successful at it, if the number of chests he was frozen with is anything to go by. We have finally freed the last of chests early this morning and count a hundred rusted chests, fifty iron chests, and twenty-five gilded chests making for a hundred and seventy-five chests in total. Cetus and his crew were notorious for sneaking into clans and making a swift getaway often before the clans were even aware they had been robbed. According to him, Cetus's last memory before being imprisoned in Ice was of a sudden and terrible storm that slammed his ship into the cliffs at the edge of the fortress of ends.
