Lore:
In Shadow Bay on a moonlit night there was a cavern on the ocean. Filled with dragon nests and tidal pools, the moonlight illuminated bioluminescent jelly fish and glowing blue-green algae in the water, and the cave walls were covered in bioluminescent fungi and worms, and the air was filled with glowing fireflies. There was an earthquake knocking eggs out of the nests. They rolled into the tidal pools as fungi and glow worms fell down hitting fireflies as they dropped. The tidal pools filled with all these bioluminescent organisms, which all covered the eggs imbuing them with glowing bioluminescence and patterns of the ocean from being rocked in crashing waves of the tidal pools during the earthquake. The bioluminescence infused the eggs in several ways. Some infused the wings so that they glowed on dark bodies. In other eggs, due to minerals that bonded to the egg in the cave and water, the bioluminescence bonded to the body as gems, or as striations of lines of color, like minerals found in the earth. In another variety the bioluminescence infused the egg as runes, and these very rare dragons become lair mages. So there are several varieties of Luciferins due to this, 1) Pars (wings) and 2) Gemma (gems), 3) Magus (mage) 4) Duplici (double bioluminescence). Their bioluminescence glows brightly in the dark night, sparking bright as they fly in the air. Due to the variety of nests in the lair that night Luciferins can be any species, but they have specific traits and colors related to their miraculous and unique birthing event, which include bioluminescence and patterns and colors emulating the ocean and waves at night in moonlight.
Luciferin is a word distantly based on the Latin root lucifer, or “light-bringer”, and is a generalized word for the light-emitting compound found in bioluminescence organisms. The wings of Luciferin dragons contain a small-molecule substrate that can undergo a special enzyme-catalyzed oxidation. This creates an excited state of the molecule that then emits light as it decays to its ground state, thus giving Luciferin dragon wings the bioluminescence. See below for details on the two types of Luciferin dragons.
----
Due to their unique lore, Luciferins can come from the following lairs:
----
Varieties:
There are four varieties of Luciferin Bioluminescent Dragons:
1: Luciferin pars ( Light-bringer Wings)
2: Luciferin gemma (Light-bringer Gems)
3: Luciferin magus (Light-bringer Magic) [must be xxy Obsidian or Abyss only.]
4: Luciferin duplici (Light-bringer double)
The Luciferin Magus includes Mages (Runes) or Shamans (Ghost). The Mages have magical runes glowing on their bodies, while the Shamans have bioluminescent infused bones that glow through their hides to reveal their special healing talents. Having a mage in the lair helps protect the lair from external threats. Having a Shaman helps protect the lair inhabitants from internal threats, like disease. Having one Mage and one Shaman in a lair assures protection for eons to come.
----
Genes:
Primary genes: Ripple, Bar, Speckle, Crystal, Falcon, Jupiter, Savannah, Tapir, and Metallic.
Note these are all genes with patterns that emulate the moonlit ocean waves and tidal pools at night.

Genes:
Primary genes: Ripple, Bar, Speckle, Crystal, Falcon, Jupiter, Savannah, Tapir, and Metallic.
Note these are all genes with patterns that emulate the moonlit ocean waves and tidal pools at night.
The following primate genes have been seen on special Luciferins in these colors only, and are VERY rare:
Secondary genes: Hypnotic, Current, Freckle, Stripes, Peregrine, Hex, Daub, Saturn, Bee, Shimmer, Alloy, Facet, Striation, and Safari - all patterns that can emulate the moonlit ocean waves and tidal pools at night.
Tertiary gene:
Colors
LUCIFERIN PARS:
XYX preferred, thought not required. This variety has dark water-like patterns on dark primary and tertiary colors, and a glowing bioluminescent secondary (wings) also with water-like patterned genes due to the crashing waves in the tidal pools. (See examples below)
Example Luciferin pars Dragons :
LUCIFERIN GEMMA:
XXY preferred, though not required. This variety has dark water-like patterned genes on dark primary and secondary colors, and a glowing bioluminescent tertiary in mineral and gem striations and patterns (from the bonding of the minerals to some eggs in the tidal pools).
Example Luciferin gemma dragons:
LUCIFERIN MAGUS:
XXY Required. This variety has dark water-like patterned primary and secondary genes in only the darkest colors (Obsidian and Abyss), and a glowing bioluminescent tertiary in runes or ghost. This rare Luciferin will be the mage or shaman of a lair when they reach adulthood. Luciferin runed mages protect the lair from external threats, while the bone-glowing Shamans protect it from internal diseases and threats, and they are always XXY. They do not come in any other colors or variations, and are very rare.
Example Luciferin magus dragons:
LUCIFERIN DUPLICI
XYY required. This 4th sub-type of Luciferin has double glow! It is the first to have double glow, and the secondary and tertiary both are bioluminescent, still based on a dark water-like pattern primary. This sub-type has been seen only in color and gene combos that work very well together, creating beautifully hued dragons that glow!
Example Luciferin duplici dragons:
