The idea is to keep it from ever reaching that point! I'm in a very tight spot, with no present job availability that can work with my class schedule, outside of my art. [b]Last December[/b], I was a recent graduate with what I thought was a promising future. I had a degree in psychology, and was heading to England with my then fiance to spend a few months getting to know his housemates, and looking in to graduate programs in the UK. At the time I was a bit frustrated—my school’s language department had dropped their German program, forcing me to drop my Bachelor of Science to a Bachelor of Arts!—because England was actually my last chance [i]to[/i] enter a master’s program my new degree would support. (At least that I could afford!) [b]Unfortunately[/b], as I quickly learned, [b]10 years apparently isn’t long enough to truly know someone[/b]; and being in a committed relationship for 5 years isn’t enough to prevent selfishness from rearing its ugly head. [b]I wish I could say I shrugged it off[/b] and kept going, but I didn’t. My ex, someone I had trusted with everything, broke my PC, requiring $900 in replacement parts, possibly committed insurance fraud to profit off of the aforementioned, stole around $300 in possessions from me, and left me back in the states with no way of moving forward with the degree I was now stuck with, and…oh, right, with $13,000 in student debt that was now due because I’d been out of school so long. [b]I fell in to a deep depression for months.[/b] I didn’t get much done, and continued to drain what was left in my bank account to make loan payments. After a few months of barely existing, I decided to go back to school. With just the BA, I couldn’t get in to any of the graduate programs I’d originally gone to school for (they all required the BS I was screwed out of in my last semester!) I’m now pursuing a BFA. This will let me get in to a local graduate program for art therapy with my preexisting BA in Psychology, and I’ll be applicable for a government debt forgiveness program after ten years—a timer that starts ticking down as soon as I enter grad school! Sounds great, right? Well, yes, but [b]the problem is…getting there. [/b] [b]See, school is…expensive[/b], and since I already have a degree, even though I can't get a job with it, I’m not applicable for financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships. Oh, there’s external scholarships I can still apply for (and I have!) but they’re few and far between, and are largely games of chance. Further, while I’m clinging to what loans I CAN get to pay my way through school until grad school (when I actually become applicable for proper financial aid again) they…don’t cover school supplies. [b]Paint is expensive[/b]. Some colors cost as much as $50 a tube. [b]I have to have a laptop for later courses[/b], and its payments are around $250 a month! And of course, there’s the [b]preexisting student loan payments[/b] that won’t go dormant again until…next semester, so I’m still making those. [b]It’s crippling[/b].
