The Vermilion Family is one of two families in the Lair- only dragons up to the fourth-gen from Vermilion (the patriarch) are allowed here. But that isn't the only requirement as some hatchlings will be kicked from the Vermilion family if they do not follow semi-strict guidelines. Exceptions to these guidelines include Sugilite (his colors and genes are less than desired) and Opal (not a spiral). Dragons closer to the top have higher status- ergo Vermilion being first.
