Here's a list of my personal favorite semi-obscure ice/snow themed words!
Starting off strong with Rime! To me, it conjures windows frosted over with those beautiful feathery patterns. The dictionary definition is a crust of ice that forms on a surface. Also, it's just fun to say! Try it. Rime. Riiime. Riiiiiimmmmmmme.
Next up is Bight!! I hail (ha) from northern Canada, and bights are a common sight in the winter. A bight forms when water or wind strips away ice from a shelf into a sort of crescent formation. It looks like an ocean wave was frozen mid crash, and when it's pure ice and the light hits right, they sometimes shine bright blue.
I can't forget Nilas! Nilas is a form of sea ice. It's a flexible sheet made from interlocked "fingers" of ice that moves with the waves, but is still technically solid. Quite dangerous if you're out kayaking, as you get stuck quite quickly if you aren't paying attention as it gets up to 10 centimeters thick.
Fourth comes Firn! Firn is the technical term for old compacted snow. When new snow falls on top of old, the weight compresses it into hard bricks that aren't quite ice but are much harder and firmer than typical fresh snow. It's great for building and walking on.
Lastly is the deliciously named Shuga! Shuga ice are spongy white lumps that float on the surface, forming beautiful patterns as they drift almost like a jaguar's pattern. They can quickly freeze into a nilas or a solid floe though, so watch out!
Hopefully you learned a new thing about ice types! I'm freezing my *** off up here so a nice icy dragon to commemorate the season would be lovely :]

Unrelated to "Ice-men", but a snow derg

my favorite thing about snow is how bright it makes everything, especially at night. any and all light reflects off of the snow and creates this aura that prevents it from getting totally dark, so even in the dead of night the sky is a pale grey. it's somewhat strange and liminal looking, but in a very beautiful way.
