In spite of its distance from the rest of the festival grounds, this area on the outskirts near the forest is surprisingly busy. Pin-wearing dragons, corven, harpies and more all bustle about, flitting through the air and rushing from tent to tent, each of them carrying something - parchments, supply crates, rattling boxes of something metal, and most commonly: what seems to be very thin, near invisible nets.

As you weave your way through the chaos, you spot a skydancer sending away a few of the younger volunteers. Glancing down, she shoos away the skycat you followed with a muttered comment you barely make out - something about hoping it doesn't take anything from the nets?

You're about to go - best not to get in the way - when she looks up, the two of you locking eyes.

She beams.

"Hello, hello! Are you here to volunteer for the Great Sornieth Bird Banding efforts?"

"Just come right this way....!"

How this Works!

"Welcome, welcome! If you're here, you might have heard about the Great Migration taking place this year, but if not: a massive migration of avifauna of an unprecedented scale passing through the Windswept Plateau this Mistral Jamboree, and it's the perfect time for us to collect data and band a bunch of birds!"

"But with this many birds heading our way, we, ah, need quite a lot of extra hands on deck. There's eleven different stations set up across the region for catching, banding, and collecting data on incoming avians. As a bit of a bonus and encouragement, we have some prizes for our best banders and helpers, and if you're an avid birder...."

"Well, I've heard there's some extra rare birds headed this way. With enough people and enough banding efforts, maybe you'll get to take home some pictures for your badge collection?"

"Interested? Here's how to help below!"

 • This is a donation drive running during the Mistral Jamboree, i.e. March 24 to 6:00 FR March 31 6:00 FR! All donations will be going towards the Wind Bank to fund future raffles and programs. The main donations we're looking for are birds* - by sending in birds from the stations, participants will garner points, which will collectively go towards....
 • Unlocking badges: each of the eleven stations has four different birdy badges that can be unlocked, for a grand total of forty-four badges! Badges unlock when a certain amount of collective points are sent in from a station, with the cumulative threshold of points for unlocking the next bird badge getting higher for each bird unlocked at the station.
 • For each station, unlocking the first bird needs 100 points, the second needs 1000 points, the third needs 4000 points, and the fourth needs a cumulative 10000 points. Progress for each station can be viewed on the leaderboard spreadsheet above in this post.
 • You can send in however many birds of however many different species in one PM (or CR, or PA round), but can only send from one station per PM/CR/PA, which will be noted in the PM/CR notes/a forum ping. Feel free to switch stations each time you send in something though! Participants who send in birds are free to take any of the birds from a particular station.
 • Forgot to visit a particular station? Not able to participate this week? No worries - all the bird badges will be available for sale up to a week after the event ends for 30 kt/g. (Any birds that don't end up unlocked by then will also be 30 kt/g for everyone).
 • To send in bird donations, send in a PM to one of the online recievers with the subject Banded Birds (see the donation form codes and spreadsheet above) - a list of acceptable bird food, familiars, and apparel, and how many points each procures, is up on the recievers' spreadsheet. NOTE: please check the acceptable birds list and do not send in corven, harpies, and other avian but very sapient beings! Your feathered friends likely wouldn't appreciate being wrapped up in mist nets. (Feel free to give them one of our free bracelets though.) (Please also don't send part of a bird! We would like to release them back to the wild, please.)
 • Not interested or no time for bird banding but still want to help? No problem! Our organization is always looking for donations to support future efforts. We can take treasure, gems, eggs, and food - just send a PM to one of our online receivers with the subject Non-bird Donation. Our top donors at the end will be given a little bonus as thanks!
 • Still any questions? I'm subscribed, but free to PM or ping me(@BeeWhisperer)!

(*Or rather, avifauna - which includes all the griffins, hippalectryons, webwings, eldtrich monstrosities & inorganics, etc that are generally in the avian clade.)

Organization Naming Poll!

"The migration hasn't started yet, but in the meantime, if you were wondering I meant by 'us': we're a recently formed organization for the research, conservation, and education on avifauna! There used to be several different avifauna institutions, nonprofits, local enthusiast groups etc. spread throughout continent, and in the interest in pooling our resources and research, we decided to band together to create one, big inter-regional organization spanning Sorneith."

"It's worked out fantastically so far - we've gotten a lot of new members and donors, started several new projects and events such as this one..."

"Although as you can see, figuring out a name for the organization isn't one of them. Not for a lack of trying, we came up with with plenty of options! Unfortunately, the votes were always evenly split - but hopefully with all the new volunteers, something comes out the best."

"So let us know if you have any strong opinions?"

VOTE HERE CLOSED!
Our winner is......

S.O.A.R.S! The Sornieth Ornithological Advocacy and Research Society

"Thank you all who participated! Funnily enough, S.O.A.R. got the next highest percentage of votes, but S.O.A.R.S is our final winner!"

"Now with that put behind us....."

I've also included the code for this particular simple formatting for the little "tooltips" designed for bios; see a preview here on Eyrie to see how they're supposed to actually look - the forum posts squish them a bit - and feel free to flip, resize, etc so long as there's some credit/link to this event (you can also reach out to me if you want any resizes). If you haven't donated to a particular station, that's fine - each badge is available for 30 kt/g and are available for the rest of the week for purchase, bird facts included! Thanks again to everyone who's donated/participated! You've all been a great help to the Wind Bank, and we hope you enjoy your new bird photos in return! Badges

For everyone who's participated via donating a bird, feel free to claim your badges from an area so long as you've donated to a particular station (you can check which stations you've donated to here)!
