We can regularly get shiitake, shimeji, enoki, oyster, king oyster, wood ear, lion's mane... all super interesting mushies for extremely cheap! (Australia tends to lean more towards Asian mushrooms, due to our climate, general location, and demographics. This is one of those delightful specimens that smells like carrion to attract flies to spread its spores, and was the very first Australian native fungi to be formally identified by Europeans, back in 1792! The genus name, Aseroe, derives from the Ancient Greek for 'disgust' and 'juice' ('rubra' just comes from the Latin for 'red'). It smells [i]nasty[/i] and I removed it pretty quick after taking this photo back in May! [b]55.
