Biography
|
Percival Remember me for centuries. Ambition is not in short supply in Goldwood, whatever you might assume if you were to look at the drones. There is Mizar, of course, whose ambition destroyed a clan and in its place built a terrible mockery of what was. Or there's Aine, who has the sort of ambition that is directed more towards absolute control through worship. Then you have Percival. He stands out quite a lot in Goldwood purely due to his stature - he's not the smallest adult dragon thanks to the Fae that live here, but he's certainly smaller than everyone else. And he doesn't wield the same kind of power that the likes of Mizar or Aine do, or even someone like Merak. He's not a drone, by birth or by training, he's not one of the exaltees, and he's certainly not one of Aine's acolytes. That alone is enough to set him apart from the rest of his clanmates. Years ago, when Giada was first investigating Goldwood, she sent Bibou to check if they were worth the effort to ally with, or else ransack. But Bibou was an outsider, and an undead Plague dragon to boot, and even back then Aine didn't conceal her disdain for such things. Percival was raised here - and Perce is charming, observant, and above all ambitious, and a little thing like family wasn't going to stop him. Bibou might have come here to case the clan, but it was Percival who truly gave Giada an in. A regime change and years later, and Perce's involvement is still mostly secret, Giada and Bibou's amused insinuations aside. Most of Goldwood treats Percival as a sort of odd little helpful fellow and doesn't give him much more thought than that - even the likes of Mizar and Aine. Percival himself is quite alright with this. In some ways one might consider him more ambitious than even Mizar - a clan is such a small thing, after all, especially one in the middle of nowhere. No, Perce has no interest in Goldwood. His plans are rather larger than that. For now, though, Percival stays here. One must build up one's connections after all, and besides a clan such as Goldwood is excellent for honing one's skills. Whether Goldwood survives it... Well, that's another question entirely. |
Character Notes
♫ Centuries
• Percival might be a Fire dragon, but he hatched in Goldwood's territory and has only left for brief periods. His egg was stolen at some point, and neither the thief nor his original parents were ever found. The lack of care and warmth while he was in the egg damaged him, causing him to remain at the size of a small fledgling well into adulthood. At least he's outgrown his youthful fragility and sickliness.
• Despite his difficult childhood and small stature, Percival is as physically healthy as can be expected. He's extremely intelligent, both socially and academically, and charming and persuasive besides that. He can charm just about anyone in ten minutes flat - even Giada finds him charming, which is a nigh impossible thing to achieve.
• Perce was more or less raised by the now missing Hyacinth. Of all the results of the coup, he regrets her disappearance/assumed death the most, though even that isn't enough to make him change his ways. Azimuth was also a major figure through his adolescence; the two have grown apart now, though Azimuth isn't quite sure what happened or why it did. Percival, of course, feels little attachment to his surrogate father and has purposefully been distancing himself.
• Kaden distrusted Percival from the moment they met. The feeling is mutual, with a side of Percival being extremely wary of Kaden working out his plans.
OOC Notes
• Ratchet & Clank fandragon! Pretty heavily based on my own headcanons tbh.
• Percival is one of the rare dragons who inherited traits from his non-dominant parent - that is, the non-Mirror parent. In his case the other parent was a Skydancer, and he inherited the breed's ability to perceive the emotions of others. His forehead and ear-fins are oddly shaped: there's a malformed gem buried under the skin of his forehead, and his fins have taken the place of a Skydancer's antennae.
On top of this, his skill would be impressive for an actual Skydancer, never mind a half-breed. His ability to charm pretty much anyone in five minutes flat has a lot to do with his ability to read emotions. For a long time he wasn't even conscious he was doing it - now that he's worked out what it is and that nobody else seems to have this ability, he's begun taking advantage of it.
