I think the only time we'd need a grace period is when we're removing dragons from the hibden or buying dragons from the AH. Hibden a little less worried about since it warns you about sending dragons with low energy, but if you have a really small lair and buy a dragon with 0 energy it isn't really fair to lose your bonus because that dragon entered your lair and brought down the average.
Hm, that's a good point. Instead of a grace period, a solution could be that if the game detects adding a dragon to your lair would move your average below 80%, you get a window warning you about this with three options - you can cancel the action (particularly if you don't have enough food points on hand), you can add the dragon to your lair and immediately feed it to keep the well-fed bonus, or you can add the dragon to your lair without feeding it and forfeit the bonus.
