As stated, Wyverns have the issue of not enough limbs
I think Nocturnes were partially made with the Wyvern aesthetic in mind, hence the tiny folded front legs.

Eh, Nocturnes lose anything wyvern-y by having a fairly balanced top and bottom. Wyverns are bottom-heavy, and you don't see any of that in nocturnes, which would make them fairly disappointing. Just having small front legs doesn't really make anything a wyvern...
I can see where you're coming from with it, though. But yeah... that would be pretty disheartening.
And to OP, you're welcome!!

I'd disagree about wyverns being bottom-heavy. Wyverns come in many different styles, and wings do have a lot of weight to them, as does the head. To fly, it would need balance.
But furthermore, the original wyverns, ie the heraldic creature, actually is top-heavy. It's a very recent reimagining that tries to make them look more like dragons, but missing a limb, or pterosaurs.

Thank you very much, I now want that as a familiar... (I have seen it before just forgotten it) That is adorable in a fierce sort of way :)
As for the main thread, I do feel that many of the dragon species that don't have the standard (by FR's rules) number of limbs would do well with familiars.
Why do familiars have to be only beastclans or animals? They very well could be cousins of the dragons ('lesser' species, 'first' tries by the various gods, 'failed' experiments by the deities etc...) that the dragon clans have vowed to protect and teach about the flights and the clans way of life. Being a familiar doesn't mean they are any less intelligent or sentient than the dragon, just means they aren't a recognized 'dragon' breed.
One way of introducing them would be to have them as festival familiars, each one a different 'cousin' to the dragons created by the deities in their quest to create the dragons. They have finally come to light and the Deities have asked their children to look after their other children.

I agree completely with this. I actually really dislike the sprites and acolytes - so far imps are a little better, with tails - because they're humanoid. And very... they're not lorecompliant. Having wyverns and wyrms and drakes would be way more fitting for these themes.
I think there might be some smarter familiars.. but it's unclear. I'm very fond of the furians for this reason; they're at least something wyvenlike/a demidragon/dragonoid. I get that this isn't evolution; dragons were literally crafted by deities but this is a world with magic and mayhem where things like emperors exist.
For that matter, emperor dragon boss fight.
tldr it's always bugged the heck out of me that dragon gods make humans instead of dragonoids. That's... sorry to sprite fans, and I mean no offense, but it's always sounded so stupid to me.

Yeah, truthfully, while I have nothing against the imps/bears/whatever, I am not that fond of them.
I would also just like a larger variety of familiars, of all different shapes and sizes :)
I always assumed that at least a couple of the beast clans were as smart as dragons such as the Serthis (with their alchemy etc..) the Dunhoof have even sent ambassadors to the clans.
I also see your point. In a world where humans aren't supposed to exist, you would think that the elementals and such would be more like dragons or even beast clannish than humanoid.

They get a pass because they fit a cute aesthetic, but they clash with every other part of the site too horribly.
And yes, same here. I figure that if the beastclans weren't as smart as dragons they wouldn't last terribly long in a war against things way larger than them.

See, I'm the opposite, because I don't get why the gods would have made lesser dragons familiars over literal incarnations of their elements (hello elementals) or infuse living creatures such as bears
Second-class dragons aren't something I'm behind.
The sprites and goblins are not to my taste at all, though. I already can't wait for next Brightshine Jubilee. Like, I can heartfully say that I like the goblins even less than the sprites, and the sprites were 1/10 on my aesthetic list.
