TOPIC | Dragon Hybrids
I have an idea for new many dragon species!
basically they'd be hybrids. Part one dragon and part another dragon.
They'd be obtainable only be breeding and it'd be rare to get them

so let's say you bred a coatl and a wildclaw
normally chances to get a coatl is 50%
and chances to get a WC is 50%
but with hybrids it'd be something like this:
coatl: 48%
WC: 48%
WC/Coatl hybrid: 4%

of course, this is unlikely to happen but I think it's a neat idea.

The looks of the dragon would be a cross between the two breeds.
I'll try to get up some idea art.

feel freely to build onto this idea or throw in your opinion from it as long as it's respectful.

No support. The sheer amount of art needed to pull this off would be insane. Think of all the colors, genes, genders, and ages that would have to be made for every combination: fae/mirror, fae/tundra, fae/guardian etc etc. We're talking tens of thousands of art pieces.

Plus, many people have expressed that they don't want randomness popping up in their breeding pairs.

I do support this suggestion: http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/sug/1542341/1 where clothing items mimic notable traits of dragons. Sure, colors would be limited, but this way people could make their own hybrids. (This would also work well for visual disabilities and mutations).

Pings are disabled.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Also, in addition to what Gemajgall said, hybrids could SERIOUSLY slow down development of new breeds when they had to make a hybrid of each species with the new species.

Would add more, but don't have time now.

Its a pretty cool idea but it doesn't seem practical to implement and wouldn't mess up the game mechanics too horribly if you made hybrids sterile like mules but

Cool idea but idk how practical it would/could be

Okay, let me see if I can make a longer post:)

1. For each dragon breed, which a hybrid would essentially be, they need to make 3 line arts: male, female and hatchling. They need to add all the genes to the line art: Primary, tertiary and Secondary. They have a new image editor that should make it much easier to multiply that across the 177 colors we will have, so that is no longer such a huge problem. However, there are currently 13 breeds of dragon. My brain is a bit rusty, but that is a LOT of dragon breeds. Then for each NEW dragon breed (as they do want to bring out more) they would have to make a hybrid of it and each of the previous breeds (excluding hybrids because that would get INSANE).

2. A lot of people already have dragons that are 'hybrids' or they consider hybrids, or they have drawn hybrid art to represent their dragon. By the admins creating an 'official' hybrid, it could stifle those people somewhat as their hybrid would no longer be considered viable. After all, we already have official hybrid art.

3. This would mean a revamp of the breeding system to allow for hybrids and how would this affect dragons like a Coatl and a Tundra? what would their percentages be, it is already nearly guaranteed you would get a tundra.

4. Randomness. As Gemajgall said, a lot of people, myself included, don't really like randomness in my pairs. If I want it there, I will put it there by breeding two dragons with huge ranges or who have breeding rarities of the same tier so I have a 50/50 chance of getting one or the other. I don't want to breed two dragons of different breeds, and get a third breed, especially if I might not like it. There are many reasons for someone to breed two different breeds, such as wanting a potential for more eggs.

If I am breeding two dragons together, say the same pair that gave me Kynin, my avvie. Centurion is a Skydancer and Kallith is a Guardian. They were one of my wider range pairs I did when I first started the game. I have been trying off and on to get another Kynin, and I would be very upset if all of a sudden I get kynin's color/genes on a third breed of dragon, one that I might not like. Right now, I don't like Snappers or Ridgebacks (I like RBs slightly more than snappers) so in order to not get one in my lair, I simply don't breed any. With this suggestion, I wouldn't have any choice except to only breed dragons of the same breed together, otherwise there would always be the chance I would get that third breed.

This would be pretty cool but it would take so much time for the artists to develop the looks.

Personally I would not like to see the addition of hybrids. First of all and most importantly, it takes a long time to create a breed and I'd much rather that time be spent creating a completely new breed rather than hybrids of existing breeds.

Just to give you an idea of how much work is involved: There are three poses (hatchling, male and female) that need to be drawn, plus the lineart for each of the genes needs to be drawn for that breed. Then they need to fit all the existing apparel onto the breed as well. Doing that will take quite a while. There are currently thirteen breeds which means there would be (if I've done the math correctly) 78 hybrids. Then for each new breed they'd also have to create a hybrid of it and each of the currently existing breeds.

Additionally there are plenty of players who want predictability in their pairs, and having a hybrid pop up in one of their pairs could be quite annoying, especially if they were working on a breeding project, especially if the hybrid happens to be the right colors needed and if its infertile or sub-fertile it can't even be use it to progress the breeding project or would require a player to have to pay even more treasure/gems to correct its breed in the cases it was the ideal gene/color/gender combination.

Another issue is many players already have dragons they consider hybrids and they wouldn't be able to convert these dragons into hybrids--and the addition of official hybrids could restrict creativity as there would be one official appearance which would conflict with other views. An alternative that has been suggested is creating more apparel along the lines of the wooly coats and feathered wings which would allow players to essentially build their own 'hybrids'

Everyone pretty much has summed up why I couldn't see this as practical either.

The artwork just to release a single breed is already a lot on the artists because they have to do all of the apparel and all of the genes.

I feel like because of the many combinations of breeds this would be nearly impossible
Also all the things that are wearable would need to be re-worked to fit that breed unless there was new apparel specific for that breed but then there wouldn't be many items. Also, genes would also need a lot of work to fit them....

Good idea but...
No Support.
