Jack fanned an eyebrow, bright brown eyes narrowing slightly, his tail stilling.
"Wasn't intending to," he responded, still keeping his voice light, even though he tensed subtly when the other dog glanced down at his bone, apparently contemplating taking it.
He shifted on his paws slightly, keeping his whole attention focused on the other canine.

"'You better not hear me squalling about it halfway across town'?" Jack repeated slowly. "Yeah, I don't make a habit of running to strangers."
He flicked his tail slightly and picked up his bone, trotting by, a casual, "See ya," cast over his shoulder.
So there was another stray around, who also happened to be condescending.
Wonderful.
Barely concealing a roll of his eyes, the white-and-black dog glanced over his shoulder at the other dog, then squeezed through a small, compact alley and blinked when he walked suddenly into sunlight.
The sight that met his eyes was appalling.
A bright red car's fender had smashed full force into a tree, the metal bending around the sturdy oak, and three stood by talking to men in blue suits.
And then his eyes landed on an animal that shouldn't have been there.
A fox?
Today was just full of surprises.

Jack glanced around, then dug a quick hole and buried his bone so he could tend to it later, then covered it once more.
He tilted his head curiously at the vixen, contemplating the idea of chasing her across the town, and also wondering if she was somehow responsible for the accident.
Foxes were notorious tricksters, after all.
He stepped backwards subconsciously, placing him out of sight of the humans. It was reflexive; hiding himself from the humans.
Licking his chops, he sat down and studied her for a moment. He wasn't used to animals he didn't know wandering around his town, and he'd ran into two already.
It was downright unnerving.

Shaking herself to try and get the itching of her collar to stop, Whispet continued to hold her gaze on the cars. She wondered what had made them collide. Was it human error, or something more? Her head tilted slightly to the right as she contemplated it, but she slowly began to feel like someone was watching her. The air was too filled of cars and burned tires to really smell past that, so no scents wafted past her nose. Looking around, she found nothing. "Perhaps I'm being too jumpy,"

Whispet carefully sat down and watched the humans chatter. While humans were no longer her favorite living creatures, it was always amusing to watch them interact with each other. She couldn't understand their language but more of what they were doing with their body. The way the leaned, where their eyes traveled- but most of all their hands. It was harder to read them without being able to see ear flicks or tail sways, but hand movement definitely helped.

"How reckless they are..." Her soft, fluffy tail rested in front of her paws, flicking up and down occasionally.

Lilly tried her best to completely clear the scene of the crash, but it kept calling her to return.
So, unwillingly, she walked back - ears down and tail tucked between her legs.
The smell of burnt rubber completely smothered all of her other senses the moment she stepped in sight of the road.
What had she done?
There was special cars now, with their flashing lights and scary sirens. Lilly knew them, they're what came to take away her human.
Anger rose in Lilly's throat, and she darted forward, teeth bared.
She made a fumbling attempt to bite the huge machines, but to no avail.
Defeated, Lilly glanced around to see another dog sitting by the road.
Ears perking up, Lilly pranced over.
'Hiya!'

Jack's eyes widened as a dog shot into the road, directly towards the loud whirring machines with the flashing red and blue lights.
He scrambled to his paws, tail shooting directly upward and fur spiking, but before he could do a thing, she had already struck at the box of metal and then...bounced towards him?
Blinked, slightly bemused, his fur settled and he muttered, "Uh, hi."
Swiftly, he found his tongue, and he shook his head at the crazy little she-dog. "Are you crazy? What on earth possessed you to attack that thing?"

He examined the little dog curiously for a moment, then concluded that her obvious lack of caution towards both him and the car marked her as incredibly, dangerously innocent. She was probably owned by a human, or had been recently.
He wagged his tail cautiously at her, turning his voice gentler so as not to not scare her any further, though she had showed obvious spunk with the car.
"Hey, sorry I snapped," he added, after a moment. "It's just...seriously not a good idea to attack those things unless you've got a death wish."

Lilly growled in the direction of the bad machines.
'They took away my human!'
She plopped herself to the ground unceremoniously, and looked over to the new dog; no signs of caution on her face. Lilly had never met anybody bad, so surely they didn't exist.
The other dog looked amused at the whole affair.
'Where's your human?' Lilly pestered.

Alarmed when she caught sight of a dog try to attack one of the cars, Whispet jumped to her paws.
"You're going to get yourself caught like that!" She barked, tail lashing from side to side. Her barking brought the attention of a human towards her. It was only a small child so it didn't cause too much worry to rise.

Whispet eyes the child for a moment as it waddled over towards the small female. The fox debated on whether or not to bite the child, or let it be. On one paw, humans hadn't proven themselves to be anything but untrustworthy. On the other paw, it was only a youngling. She felt the child pat the top of her head, fingers sticky with sweat.

"Ick." Whispet quickly bounded away and onto one of the crashed cars, then rushing to the other side of the street.

Lilly tilted her head curiously upon seeing the fox that darted across the road.
Not pausing to wait for the other dog to answer her question, she instead ran off to pursue the fox.
Eventually hatching up, Lilly smiled.

He sighed as he watched the dalmation stroll off between the walls right towards the crash. Garrett started to wonder if he really should investigate, even if just a little. Looking around his surroundings again, he walked closer to the thin alleyway and stood at the other end, watching from afar. He couldn't see any major details, but he noticed the dalmation with another dog and...

~Is that...a fox? That's not common.~ He thought with a tilt of his head. ~Argh, get over it, Garrett. They have their own problems, you have yours. There's no need to add anything to either.~ With a shake of his head, he turned tail and trotted back down the road until another alleyway opened up. Checking to make sure no one else was around, he made a sharp turn and kept walking, his mind on one thing - making sure no one besides those he trusted found his "hideout", his home.

The female stopped, one paw raised as a dog stopped in front of her. Her tail flicked to one side as she spoke cautiously. "Hello there." The other dog seemed familiar. Was it perhaps the one who'd tried to bite at the cars? Perhaps not, Whispet was always troubled with remembering exact fur patterns of dogs.
