"Yes. We'll go as well." Azrael said. "Spending some time in the company of friends for a while sounds like a wonderful idea."

'Why are you frowning?' -Temeraire's first words.

"Well then, why not leave now?" Mercor spread his wings with a faint hiss of feathers. He was the first to beat away from the ground, the wind of his wings only an addition to the constant breezes that swirled around the Market. Nighte waited for Feyla to follow him up, her wingbeats clumsy but strong.
Ozzie sighed and shook out his heavy coat. "I'll be glad to be back south." He said ruefully. "At least I won't have to fly everywhere."
Annian laughed a little, deep in her chest, following the imperials up. The warm winds of the Plateau were always excellent for gliding, and already Nighte and Mercor were circling as they waited for the rest of the party. The winds blew in wide circles around the edges of the Plateau, and when the dragons slipped away over the ocean it was a blast of coolness. The growing chill felt like a benediction to Nighte.

If returning to the Plateau with Val had taken the weight of the world off Azrael's shoulders, then following Nighte and Mercor back to their lair in the south felt like coming home.
Quite an odd feeling, all things considered, but an agreeable one nonetheless.
As the first ice bergs began to appear in the frigid water below, Azrael felt Brudigan shift as he looked around, muttering to himself, no doubt already planning the first stages of his survey.
Reshaki kept pace, although Azrael thought he heard her grumbling to herself, likely something to do with the cold.
Gulmour was nowhere to be seen, but then that was hardly all that surprising.
He grinned to himself contentedly as he traced a lazy spiral around Val as they flew.

All was as it should be and for once, the future didn't look quite so dreary and the ghosts of the past were at long last laid to rest.

((And done! Feeling kind of sad that we're done with this. But let's definitely do this again sometime.))
