'An ambush, whilst the gate was being prepared. Is this trickery, or a cruel twist of coincidence?'
'Regardless. The Guardian saw them in advance, and the bandits were disorganised and unprepared as well, clearly not expecting travelers to be capable of fighting back. I got bored of humoring them eventually, and requested Lucrest to repeat what he did a few days ago and swiftly depart us from the conflict.'
'The Banescale appears content to stay with us. Itura had asked every clan we passed by, and one informed that they looked to be from an abandoned nest they had been tending to. They had been searching for the hatchling, and were glad they were safe. Given the Banescale wanted to remain on the airship, we were given permission from the clan to let them stay with us. I am unsure if the airship will remain safe for them, nor what the next location will bring, but it's a problem to figure out as we go.'
'With that out of the way, I could finally activate the gate.'

Still capable of animation long after its host body has been destroyed, the best tactic for dispatching these airborne skulls is with a swift projectile.

Glittering Sphinxband
Trinkets
The gleaming silver beast that wraps around this valuable ring is said to ward off feline predators. Probably not best to rely on that, though.

Enchanted Candle
Trinkets
Just the sort of thing you wouldn't want to see floating on its own at the end of a dark hallway.

Umbral Catfish

These tiny catfish school in shaded ponds. Direct contact with sunlight cause the fish to change color and expire.

'After disembarking and restocking our supplies, the locales provided us with information about the weather patterns. Due to the intensity of the fluctuations, they recommended against flying if possible as the weather was near impossible to predict. 'Whilst in Staferos, the presence of decorations did not go unnoticed. Braided strands of silver, purple and pink wires were wrapped around nearly every viable surface visible, and the city's numerous flames had offerings of silver goods laid before them. We did not have much time to enquire about the nature of such preparations, although we did discern they were for some kind of holiday or festivity.'
'There is an answer now though, having arrived as a smaller township whilst said festivities were fully occurring: this is the Luminance, a two cycle (as they lacked days and nights) celebration of the day the first stabilising flame was made. The first cycle reflects the heatwaves, marked by loud celebrations with dragons taking to the streets to sing and dance. The second reflects the cold, where as a community the celebrations are cleaned up and the crowds disperse into their own homes to spend the day with families and loved ones.'
'There was some guilt knowing we would not be around to help in the cleanup - we would not have the time to, even if we could. They were understanding, though. And although none of us were particularly the type to join in on such loud activities, the passengers were all the more eager to talk to the locales on the sidelines.'
'Having lived on rations for some time, myself significantly longer than the ones on board, we were all relieved to have access to something fresh for once. Nothing was too foreign either. A species of flower that bloomed at impossibly fast speeds, using the often turbulent winds to scatter pollen. Subterranean catfish that could survive being frozen alive. Lizards that adapted to flock to enchanted flames for safety. Mayflies have somehow found a niche in this environment as well, mostly from populating in dragonmade ponds. They catered to everyone, even the pickiest of eaters.'
'We lingered for a little longer than was considered safe, but I believe for the sake of everyone on board it was necessary.'
'For the first time since the last crew departed - I am content.'

'I had to check myself after a few hours, fearing the reason why they hadn't returned. In actuality, they had found a massive pond full of those catfish we saw during the festival, as well as mushrooms and other edible food in the biggest underground cavern I had ever seen. There also seemed to be the remnants of a long abandoned camp, and we were able to scavenge some extra supplies to trade or save for future repairs.'
'Lucrest seemed slightly hesitant in taking down the camp, but there was enough dust built up there to last decades. I highly doubt anyone even remembers this place exists.'
'We hauled back as much as we could. I remember some of the old crew members drying any food we had to preserve them for longer, and a rack was set up to do so with some help with the two Banescales.'

Battle Items: Foraging (As there is no Coliseum venue low enough for none of the dragons to earn any experience, the Training Fields will be used as it yields the least amount of XP.)
'We came across the opening to a cave today. Given the nature of this place, we felt it was likely there could be foragable food within. Lucrest and Itura disembarked to search whilst we waited.'
'We finally had enough food to eat normally again. Thank the stars.'
